GDI.
He has no clue.
"To top it off, these names mean absolutely nothing. I imagine that the very first fraternity brothers picked their name out during a bar game of darts in which a chart of ancient Greek letters replaced the dartboard."
He seems bent out of shape for not getting rushed by any fraternities out there.

I'm surprised that he was able to get that many words out of it. I mean, he was really stretching at the end there with what happens when all the 2 and 3 letter combinations are used up bit. But man, he still got his inches...
By the by, my calculations there are 14400 different combinations of Greek letters with either two or three letters.
Of course, that's assuming we just picked out of a hat because he thinks there is no meaning to our names. There probably aren't that many "significant" meanings that exist for a letter like Eta (no offense to any groups out there with an eta in their name, just couldn't think of any groups off the top of my head that used Eta in their name). So that would diminish our possible options...

The journalist in me cringes at bit at the "Sexual Assault Expected". I'm no lawyer, but to me, that's spitting on the libel line.

Yeah, although that phrase has been around for a while. He's quoting it.

I actually think he's trying to provide humorous (mind you, I said TRYING) commentary on the things we greeks do that don't necessarily make sense to outsiders.
It's hard to believe that a student at one of the country's preeminant universities (just ask them!) doesn't recognize the differences between greek letters. I'm guessing he avoids physics classes? And speaking of physical science: if he can't distinguish a Theta Delta Chi with Kappa Alpha Theta he needs to repeat Biology 101 (or get stronger eyeglasses).

lol!
Ok, he said, "Sometimes, when I lie awake in the wee hours of the night, I get really frightened about the possibility of some Greek people getting together and starting an actual Greek-interest fraternity." I'm thinking: (1) he gets "really frightened" by this? wow, he scares easily! and (2) most non-Greeks generally don't spend much time pondering Greek life unless they're upset (mad, sad, disappointed, whatever) about NOT being part of Greek life.
I get that he has to think of things to write week in and week out, and that could be really stressful and leave you writing about things you really don't care about. But I wonder why he picks on Greeks. I mean, I don't understand why Philosophy majors sit around and think about crazy stuff they can't do anything about, but I don't say, "Sometimes, when I lie awake in the wee hours of the night, I get really frightened about the possibility that Philosophy majors might really discover the meaning of life and not tell me about it."
I know. I'm rambling. I just wish people would either get educated or just keep their mouth closed when it comes to things they don't know about.

There's just so much wrong with that article, there's just not even a place to start. If I had to sum it up in one word though, I would definatly say: Unresearched.

I think this was written by a high school freshman parading as a Stanford student. Not even close to being cute when he throws around derogatory nicknames which will infuriate members of the Greek councils etc. He can expect his car to be toilet papered at a minimum.

I used to think this school had a lot of intelligent students. I'm sure it still does. But this article and the interactions I've had with quite a few of these tree alums makes it quite clear that there are a large number of airheads within that student population.

Not to mention referring to SAE as "therapists" - we've all seen that SNL skit enough to know that he wasn't referring to them as counselors.

I actually wrote an e-mail to him -- something I've never done before -- courtesly pointing out some of his errors -- and got a kind of group reply the following day.
He pointed out that the newspaper publishes a lot of his comments, and those who read them understand that a lot of his stuff is tongue-in-cheek, at the same time admitting that he doesn't find himself particularly funny or a particularly good writer.
Anyway, he purports to not having any deep animosity toward the Greek System, but rather was confused as to why we call ourselves "Greeks."
For whatever it's worth.
