Greek life question: Is 24 too old to rush a fraternity?
Hello everyone,
I am 24 years old and a Junior at my university studying pre-med. Don't ask me why I havent graduated yet, truth be told i get tired of having to explain that. I had previously changed my major and it was a while before I became DECISIVE about what I wanted to do career-wise.
Anyway, I am writing because I have had interest in greek life since I started college. I DID get invited to rush one of the fraternities a couple years ago, but didnt go because I was not sure if I was ready (long story). But I have looked extensively into what greek life is all about (some of my relatives were greek in college) and have come across a lot of positive (and unfortunately negative) information. Nonetheless I'm still interested in the possibility, if there still is one.
The question is, at 24 years old is it too late to be considered? I'm asking because I know that a lot of students join at 18 or 19 and some in their first semester in college. I'm not trying to brag (but it will sound like I am, I know) but I am very good looking, get good grades, athletic, I'm a member of the student government at my school, and I still LOOK like I'm about 15 or 16 ( no joke, I routinely get mistaken for a highschooler). Does any of this help or did I simply wait too long? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And thanks!
P.s. -- some of you might ask my reason for wanting to join, and that's welcome, in short, I wish to maximise the rest of my undergrad experience, and help broaden my career chances, which I believe I will do either way, but again, this is still something of interest to me =)

I say give it a try. You aren't that much older then some people I know who have pledged. Also it looks like you are very involved on campus which is always a plus.

Now that the 4 year olds are done, sure go ahead and rush. Even some of the really good houses take juniors and seniors occasionally and 24 isn't much older than some of the brothers who will be in the house still.

Yes and for that matter, it's too old to be in college. If you even have to ask, it's because you know.

Well I guess it's a good thing that I don't look like I'm even old enough to be in college yet then, eh?
I'm planning on going into medical school and that will take time, everyone has their own timetable for these things. You don't have to judge.
Honestly, I always thought 24 was still very young but I guess I was wrong =/

I don't think you have a shot. You're 24 years old and gay.
I hope you go to a school in San Fran.
