Army to launch probe into Tillman's death

Here's the first paragraph of the article...

WASHINGTON - The Army said Saturday it will launch a criminal investigation into the April 2004 death of Pat Tillman, the former professional football player who was shot to death by fellow soldiers in Afghanistan in what previous Army reviews had concluded was an accidental shooting.

Being an Arizona native, an ASU graduate and a Cards fan, I'm glad they are doing this. It breaks my heart that he died due to friendly fire, that is just extremely messed up.

There are a lot of "friendly fire" deaths. They're all messed up.

Seriously

I may not be the military and I don't obviously know what it is like to be in a war zone, but I have to wonder "how could you not know?"

Lightbulb

It is very easy and depends on the situation all were in.

If You have never been shot or shot at, then no one can really undestand.

It is a sad situation, but remember, Stonewall Jackson one of the smartest Generals during the Civil War was shot by His own Men. He was mourned and those who shot Him felt terrible. Just as those who shot Tillman might have.

Pitch black, so loud you can't hear, flashs of light from bombs/gun fire ruining what little night vision you have and disorienting you even if you have night vision goggles, explosions and concussions that rattles your entire body, smoke, adrenaline rush, nervousness....I wonder?

Fratricide is career ending, thousands of hours of training are spent to learn how to avoid it, technology is being used to try and mark everyone that's friendly on the battle field. It's still war though. It's not a football game or paintball. It's fast and deadly and even the slightest mistake (or no mistake at all) is fatal.

It's a dreadful situation, but it does happen.
