Well today is Dec. 6th - a day that unfortunately marks two sad days in Canadian history - one an accident of war that claimed the live of some 2000 people; the other a product of hate that claimed the lives of 14 women because of hate...
Dec 6th, 1917 was the date of the Halifax Explosion, the day that the 4th largest man-made non-nuclear explosion occured - one that was an accident. The explosion of a munitions ship in Halifax harbour claimed the lives of some 2000 people, and wounded 9000 others... but as shown in the TV pieces on Canada we should remember the bravery and honour of Vince Coleman - a telegraph operator that refusing his chance to escape the explosion stayed at his post to warn two incoming trains, saving hundreds more lives.

Dec 6th also sadly marks the anniversary of the Ecole Polytechnique massacre in Montreal; where a misogynist gunman killed 14 female engineering students at Ecole Polytechnique... the gunman, Marc Lapine, entered an engineering class and seperated the men from the women; once this was done he opened fire on the women while screaming about his hated of feminists; after the classroom killings he wandered the halls shooting at any women he saw before finally turning his gun on himself. By the end of the day 14 women were killed and another 8 wounded.
Today campuses all across Canada mark the massacre at various memorials, hoping/praying that an act of such blind hatred never happens again...
