Kings fined for funny intro vs. Pistons
Sorry, but considering what happened after the 84 WS and the display of the classless fans during the Ron Artest incident, this was pretty funny. I mean, obviously Detroit's like any other city (10% of its inhabitants are soccer hooligan-like), but still, funny.

NBA docks Kings $30,000 for video stunt
Associated Press
NEW YORK -- The Sacramento Kings were fined $30,000 by the NBA on Monday for showing derogatory images of Detroit on video screens prior to their home opener against the Pistons.
When the Pistons were introduced Nov. 8, the Arco Arena scoreboard flashed pictures of abandoned buildings, burned-out cars, piles of rubble and other negative images of Detroit. The Pistons won the game 102-88.
The Kings apologized that night and owners Joe and Gavin Maloof bought full-page ads that ran in The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press, expressing "great respect for Detroit's long and rich tradition as a landmark American city and the incredibly positive impact the Motor City has made over the course of our country's history."

The last four Detroit titles have had no incidents whatsoever. Make sure to stay away from the room service in Sacktown on the eve of a big playoff game

Yeah, I know, especially since many cities have seen stuff like that....see Vancouver 94 or the LA Lakers fans in 01 (I thinki it was 01 or 02).
But, my question: Why riot and destroy shit when you WIN????

Yeah it'd be SO HILARIOUS if they were playing New Orleans and showed images of people looting, flooded houses, drunken Mardi Gras goers. Yeah, jabs on your away team that are offensive are FUCKING HILARIOUS.
Hmm.... last time I checked even tho we lost last year people were still celebrating the fact that they worked their asses off to get there again. And the year before, it was all about happy cheer.
Why bring something up that happened over 10 years ago?

The point is, those things shown were not results of rioting after a win (10 PLUS years ago, BTW!). They are very real, everyday images of a town that was once glorious and is continuing its struggle to rebuild. They were not poking fun at stupid rioters, they were endorsing the "Detroit is a piece of sh*t" mentality that so much of the country has. Detroit has made some great strides in the last few years and people constantly beating it down doesn't help.
And it's not "funny".

But they didn't.....
You're seriously comparing a natural disaster to riots caused by a sports championship?.....ok

Yes I am. Because BOTH are part of a city's history. But if you're gona put it that way, then how would you feel if they were playing NY and focused on all the homeless people living on church steps in the City?
Looting in NO was NOT a natural disaster. The images we SAW mostly were looters taking TVs and things that they just didn't NEED.
The images that many see of Detroit are the ones that were shown on that video.... but what you didn't see were all the hard-working white & blue-collar people going to work. While many people are out of work cuz of Detroit's shitty economy, there are still many who work in the city, and who are working to make Detroit the place it once was. The actual downtown is very nice. Every main city has a ghetto, and unfortunately that's what the country focuses on when it comes to Detroit. Half the time I don't even consider the shitty parts Detroit. When you're local, sometimes you separte it by Southwest, Northwest, Northeast, Metro, Downtown, Cass Corridor. Some of these neighborhoods of Detroit you don't go to without protection, and some you can go out and enjoy.
It's not funny to make fun of people's misfortunes and that is exactly what this video showed.

So, now you're telling me the looting had NOTHING to do with the hurricane or at least was not a product of it? Okay..........
Again, they're NOT showing pictures of NY homeless people, so that's irrelevant. You're comparing things that make absolutely no sense.
I even said every city has a ghetto, just like every city has rich communities as well. So don't say that I'm implying only Detroit is like that.
Calm down honey, it's seriously not a big deal. They didn't even talk about this on ATH....no one really gives a shit except David Stern.
