Help with costume for a play

Hi there. I have been cast in a play where I play a "church lady."
Unless I hear otherwise, I will play her as a priss and a gossip.

I don't know how old she will be but I'm thinking at least 50.

 I need to costume myself.

Any ideas as to what I can wear?

The more specific the better because a co worker said dress "old lady ish" and I don't know what that means!

Or point me out to tv shows or movies where a character is dressed similar to what I need to be.

Especially shoes because I need to start wearing the shoes during rehearsal.

 Thank you very much!

exactly. think dana carvey's church lady or dress sort of like aunt bee from the andy griffith show. small print flowerdy cotton dress, thick stockings, sensible shoes. if you are a church lady, you most likely will feel quite self righteous, and look down upon everyone. check out thrift stores for your costume,

And a hat. Preferably one with fake flowers and little birdie on it.

Watch a few episodes of Golden Girls and pick any of them except Blanche.
