Unknown Connections Between PNMs/NMs and GLO Members

Not sure what to call this post but I thought that this was incredible..talk about fate!! Maybe some of the pnms/members knew about each other or not.

I am entering my chapter's nm's in my contact list and realize that there are connections..some I already knew about so I thought it would be great to start a thread about after someone has pledged a GLO, realizing that a relative or someone you know/or who lives near you but you didn't know them

Cousin to just-graduated alumna who is marrying a chapter sister's brother

Cousin to Alpha Gam from another chapter
2 live on the same street as chapter alumnae
One lives on same street as VST member
One lives within a mile of an advisor
One lives within a mile of an advisor's inlaws/she lived in the area until last year.

All this after only being nm's for 3 days..imagine what else we'll learn

Maybe not too much of a connection but.....

When I went through rush, I realized that the girl who was our drill team captain my soph yr in high school was in the ADPi chapter at A&M.

And, the ADPi chapter president had gone to my high school too and we knew some of the same people.

It was very cool.... like I already had a connection to the house.

As a Province Director, I received and read all the Executive Council minutes and reports. Imagine my surprise when I see a name of a young woman who babysat my kids at least 6 years ago, when she was in like 8th grade was then an officer in one of the chapters nearby.

In a recent address list, I noticed that a woman in the same chapter as above lives on the street I grew up on.

I had to laugh at this, because not only was I a Kappa legacy, but my hs bf's sister was Kappa President, my hs "big sister" was a Kappa, my favorite teacher was a Kappa, and I was literally in the Kappa house long before I was in any other building on campus!

I found out (after graduating) that my greataunt was in a local which became an NPC sorority - but I'm still trying to find out which one. Can't find that photo album, but under her photo it mentions the sorority and "just prior to colonizing as XYZ". Watch it be Kappa, too!

One of my best friends in my chapter lived only a few short blocks away from me growing up------never knew each other as kids, but ended up as sisters!!!!

Another girl from my chapter now lives only a couple of miles from me, and we are the best of friends. When I was in high school, a couple of other people "warned" me about her----said some negative things about her. Glad I didn't listen!!!!!

I've been dating a Kappa Sigma alum for over 2 years now, and shortly into our relationship, I found out that my uncle is a Kappa Sigma.....small world.

I'm sensing a fun game here ... kind of like 6 degrees of separation or 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon ... I bet we can all figure out lots of interesting connections!

When I pledged, the Chapter Life Vice President was living right behind me in my hometown---literally. Her parents backyard was separated by my parents backyard by a fence. She was just enough older that I didn't know her although I did know her brother.

Not a huge connection but after I pledged, I found out that one coworker was a Sigma Kappa alum from the Pomona chapter & after we bought our house, we went to get the upgrades in Escondido. There was another couple there & it turns out that the woman was another SK alum. She will be living a few doors down from me so it's neat to have a sister nearby.

During one of the first days of recruitment, I met a girl who graduatd with my next door neighbor. Turns out she was at his homecoming party and I was there also hanging out with the older sister next door neighbor. Also turns out that I "accidentally" busted up a hot makeout session with her and her boyfriend.

Yeah. She's now my lil sis and best friend!

There's a ton more but since we're commuter it's not that surprising.

When I traveled as a chapter consultant and did bid matching at a Pennsylvania school, I saw a girl at pref who looked familar but it did not click till I sat doing our bid matching. Quota was 21, we took quota on the first time throught he list and she was on our 2nd bid list, 2 more girls down. She wound up mismatching ang getting picked up by her 2nd choice group as a snap. Turns out I used to babysit her like 12 years earlier! To this day, I drive past her house when visiting my mom who still lives in the old neighborhood and think, a dphie could have lived there!

Connections later

So... a few of my connections to AGD came after I met my now husband...except one.

My mother's brother's wife asked me one day about an AGD shirt I had on... where upon she informed me that she was an AGD from Maine of Ohio.

Then after I met my then boyfriend (now husband) I made tons of AGD connections. He went to hs with soon to be AGD's (one introduced us) and none joined the same chapter. Also his cousin is an AGD from Murray University.

Other connections... I've worked with an AGD at summer camp and one of the swim coaches where I lifeguarded one year is an AGD.

I believe you mean Miami of Ohio and Murray State University.

Sad to say-- but last year two women joined my chapter that I had coached in Youth Cheerleading when they were 7 years old!! The one is no longer a member-- but the other is a current executive officer-- she is a great newer member!!

When I was in the chapter there were two girls who lived within three blocks of my parents house and I never knew them growing up-- and they are now my sisters and we were in the chapter at the same time!!

Every year it always seemed/seems that there was/is someone going through that I know somehow or another!! Small world I guess!! By the way, I went to a "commuter school" so it is not unheard of to have known many of the people going through recruitment. Most of them attended the local high schools- so we knew alot of the women just because many of us had gone to HS together. But there were also the random things like the two girls I coached!!

Thanks Tsteve... don't know where my brain was on that one. As to the Murray... I normally don't add State because everyone here knows what you mean when you say Murray. I don't think that there is another college or university that has Murray in it unlike... Georgetown. Georgetown College and Georgetown University and I think that there is a Georgetown school in Texas.
