Moving to Texas

Hey fellow GCers. Can anyone offer me advise on where to live, work, shop, eat, things to do in general in San Antonio?
Mr. adpi*nurse and I are moving in November....Can't wait to set foot back on good ole American earth!

Anywhere on the North side of town is good. Stay away from the near northeast side tho. Far NE side is ok. Anywhere in North Central, Northwest or far West parts of town. For schools, stay in the Northside or Northeast ISD's.

Shopping, depends on what you want. The big mall here is North Star across from the airport. Its got pretty much everything. On the far NE side of town is a pretty big shopping center area called The Forum. Its got everythign too, except department stores. In September The Shops at La Cantera open by Six Flags. Its supposed to be pretty upscale and will have Nordstroms and Niemans, Tiffany, all that stuff.

Theres always stuff to do. I dont knwo what you and your husband are into, but theres always stuff to do.

If ya have any other questions feel free to pm or ask here. Ive been in SA for 12 years now.

Again, cause youre in the hood. I'd hate it over there too. Get up to the northside where there's a better area (economically) and theres tons of great restauraunts and bars.

Actually, I'm kinda liking San Antonio for the most part. Except for days like today where it rains and you can't drive on half the roads for risk of hydroplaning. The main reasons I don't like the town stem from my drivers license saying "under 21 until 18 sept. 05"

as far as places to live:

Hunters Creek
Elm Creek
Alamo Heights
some parts of Castle Hills are nice
if you are into old houses/historic distrcits-The Monte Vista area is nice but surrounded by not so nice areas
I think the Stone Oak area is suppose to be nice as well
there are so many subdivisions that area north of 1604-I am not familiar with these (the town has really grown since I moved away 15 years ago)

If you like Fish-Sea Island Shrimp House is very good

i have a couple friends that live in SA. One lives near the sea world/fiesta texas area and it is nice. homes are kinda close together, but they have a HUGE backyard. another lives in North SA, on 1604 near 281 i think. they also live in a nice area, but not expensive. if you get a house, be careful who the builder is. some of them are building cheap homes, but they look nice. i'm trying to remember the name of one, but can't. if it pops into my head, i'll be back!
