Need advice from Ray Charles Fans
I won a raffle at my company picnic today-- "Ray Charles, Genius & Soul, the 50th anniversary collection." It includes 120 tracks and an 80 page book of photos and things. The pricetag on it is $69.99.
Somebody else at the picnic won a Toshiba 16inch TV with a built in DVD player. (It's a conventional TV, not a flat screen). He's willing to trade with me.
I'm NOT a Ray Charles fan-- but someone else advised me NOT to trade and told me to hold on to the unopened collection because it will be worth "big bucks" in a few years.
Do you think it will be? Should I hold on to it or trade it? (I feel like I'm on "let's make a deal!")
Anybody know if this thing is going to be worth money, or will I be stuck with a bunch of CDs I'll never listen to???

Sorry, he does nothing for me.... which is why I don't know if I should get rid of the collection or hang on and hope it goes up in $'s.
I'm thinking... "bird in the hand" with the TV-DVD-- but I don't want to kick myself if I see the collection on E-Bay for $1000 or more!

Do you NEED a TV/DVD player??? I mean unless this guy really loves Ray Charles then he's probably thinking the same thing you are. Unless you need a TV I would hold onto the prize you won. At the very least you should be able to sell the collection for some amount in the future...and the TV is only going to decrease in value. Just my two cents!

From some preliminary research, what's special about this CD box set is that it was released prior to Ray Charles' death. (Amazon says 1997.) Ebay has sets going from as low as $52.00 to as high as $124.00.
I, for one, don't expect this to become more valuable over time, since technology is constantly changing and Ray Charles music is rather ubiquitous.
If I were you, I would trade it.

Thanks to all who replied for your imput. You all made some very compelling arguments both for and against trading it. My deadline is tomorrow--I'll let you know what I decide. Warning-- I'm a libra, and everyone knows we have a tough time making decisions!
I'm leaning towards trading it because there were so many of these produced. If I do, I may end up kicking myself ten years from now.
I don't really need another TV, but it would be nice to have the DVD player. I only have one-- and I wouldn't mind having one in my computer/guest room.
