My sister was in an accident.....
My younger sister was in an accident last night that caused her Xterra to spin on two wheels and eventually flip onto its side (driver's side). Her friend, the only passenger in her vehicle, hopped out of the passenger side window. My sister couldn't get out through that window, so she had to get out through the window at the rear of the Xterra.
My sister wasn't wearing her seatbelt and has some scrapes, very bad bruises, and some minor pain. She hasn't gone to the hospital (I think she is scared), but I told her that if she didn't want to go to the hospital that she needed to go and see her doctor first thing tomorrow so that he could do a thorough check-up. My sister never wears her seatbelt. In fact, she didn't wear it last night on her way home after the accident either.
I was out last night when I got the call from my sister so I went to the scene. It wasn't pretty. The entire front end of the Nissan Sentra that hit my sister was smashed in. Everyone in that car appeared to be fine though.
I'm not sure if my sister will begin to drive more cautiously or begin to wear her seatbelt -- probably not -- but I hope she wisens up a little. Anyway, I had to "vent" I suppose.

Oh Honey I am so sorry! I bet you were really scared for your sis! Hopefully she'll realize how dangerous not wearing her seatbelt is! I hope she comes around!

Adri, I hope your sister is really ok. I'm sorry you had to get so scared but hopefully she learned her lesson.

That is really scary. I'm glad she's ok, and I hope you're ok too, you must have freaked out!
Why was she scared to go to the hospital? Is she afraid of your parents would find out?

Adri,I'm really sorry to hear about your sister. Glad to know she is okay. ( Also glad that you weren't in the car with her.) Hopefully this is a learning experience for her.

Thanks y'all.
Yeah, I was really scared. I was speeding down the highway on the way over to the accident scene and my friends had to tell me to chill out. Boy did I feel the adrenaline rushing through my body.
My sister told our parents last night, so that isn't it. I think she has a phobia of doctors / hospitals. She landed on her left shoulder / upper arm and hit her head on something. As a result, her entire left arm is swollen (she can't even take off her ring) and she has a headache. She obviously should get checked out, but she just doesn't want to go in. I am trying to get her to go though.
Again thanks for your words.

I hope she will try to use her seatbelt from now on. I know my life was saved b/c I was wearing mine.
I hope your sister checks out ok. I would recommend an MRI to make sure there is not clot or present hemorrhage going on.

I am so sorry to hear that, I'm sure she will be fine.
I also got into a car accident. On Thursday I was driving up to Chico for my boyfriends birthday and this woman was turning left (from a stop sign no less) onto the street I was on and nailed me on the front passenger side. I am fine, some scrapes and bruises (mostly from my airbags) but it sure was scary and will be a pain to deal with!! My poor little mustang is probably totaled, too. boo to bad drivers!

I am sorry your sister was in an accident. She cheated death and was pretty damn lucky to get off with minimal damage. I hope this is a hint and a half for her to wear her seatbelt. Next time she might not be so lucky.
My older sister was in a head on collision on St. Patty's Day 1998. A drunk driver hit her. Was not wearing a belt. She was hella lucky to get away with some facial lacerations (you could see her face imprinted in the glass of the windshield 4 months after the accident). Her worst injury was a severely broken leg. Broken in 7 places...the ankle alone was broken in 4. She was out of work for over 6 months and had to drop out of her nursing program.
Your sister also needs to carry her behind to a doctor...there could be internal bleeding.
Keep us posted, hon

I echo Jill's thoughts. I am happy she's ok and was able to walk away, but I've been to too many funerals for people who weren't wearing their seatbelts to ever miss the chance to remind people of their importance and the importance of having a doctor check you out after an accident.
Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

*hugs*
Your sister needs to go to the hospital. NOW. There have been numerous stories about people who "walked away" from serious accidents who didn't go to the hospital and later suffered worse trauma - or even death.
She needs to go, even if you have to strap her into a car and take her yourself. I hope everything works out okay!

Oh goodness I am glad she's OK. That is sooo scary.
Another random tip...tell her NOT to talk to the other person's insurance agent. They will ask if she's OK and if she says yes they won't pay any future medical bills from the accident. As sucky as it sounds tell her they must only talk to her insurance company or her lawyer (and she should get one)

I'm sorry your sister was in an accident, but I'm very glad she wasn't killed or seriously injured. She was very fortunate, especially given that she was not wearing a seat belt. Hopefully she will wear her seat belt in future. Take care, both of you.
