what do you call youself?
In reading through this form and others on this site, I have noticed that sorority members referr to them selves differntly from the way that I remember in the past. I, being an "old" head from TEXAS still use some of the "names" that we did back in the day and have come off as bing offensive while not meaning to be. So, I would like to know where you are from and what do you call you selves. Example when I was in school zpb= Zeta's, dst= Delta's, aka=AKA and sgrho= Gamma Rho's.
With the men, APhiA = Alpha's, KAPsi= Kappa, Omega Psi Phi, Omega's and PBS = Sigma's
Any whooo, I was just curious
Be Blessed!!

soror epitome,
i'm of the opinion that our soror is asking for clarification on currently acceptable nicknames for nphc orgs, as she's noticed (via GC) that the nicknames she originally learned have changed over time and are also regionally diverse.

Sistergreek,
I'm old school too! We used the same names, with a couple of variations (and I still use those names).
AKA - AKAs, (but since becoming a member, I many times say "Alpha Kappa Alpha")
DST - Deltas
SGRho - On my campus we always called them by their whole name - Sigma Gamma Rhos
Z Phi B - either Z Phi B or Zetas
A Phi A - Alphas
KAPsi - Kappas
Omega Psi Phi - Ques
Phi Beta Sigma - Sigmas
Iota Phi Theta - Iotas (we did have them on our campus in the early 80's)
Then there were the non-greeks:
Groove Phi Groove - called them either by their whole name or Groove (as in "He's a Groove")
Swing Phi Swing - whole name or Swing (same example for Groove)
I can't get with folks calling us "K's" - I've never heard of that one before until my sister-in-law used the term, and I said "WHAT????"

I see. Well, count me in the old school too because the above are the only references that I have ever heard.

When I'm not talking to a member of my sorority, I refer to myself as a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha, and that's how I would like for them to refer to me. When I'm talking to a soror, only then do I say AKA. I prefer that if someone is not a soror, that that person does not refer to me in such a familiar term as an AKA. I was also taught not to refer to me as AKA when I was an interested woman but I think that interested women these days don't know this.
On a sidenote, I hate when posters misuse the possessive and type "AKA's" when there is no possessive being shown. This applies for all the names of the different BGLOs actually.
For example, altogether now...
AKA's = the possessive (example: I had that AKA's shirt) - showing possession of the shirt
AKAs = the plural (example: I saw a ton of AKAs at the stepshow) - using the term AKAs to mean more than one AKA.
Ok, I'm off my soapbox now.

That's cool, I've never heard of that. I've heard the most variations for Sigma Gamma Rho - Rhos, SGRhos, Gamma Rhos. I just say SGRho.

Totally AGREE! When I see Delta's instead of Deltas it burns me up! But to me it seems the misuse of the possessive vs. plural is rampant as of late (even amongst supposedly educated people).

Interesting. Calling someone an AKA is like saying you know them basically? Hmm.
Guess you don't care to be called a "K" either, which is widely accepted in the TX area.

Just curious too...
What others names have you read on this board that Zetas have called themselves other than Zeta?
