A UCF Recruitment- Fall 2009
Hey Chatters! Recruitment is just a week away (ahh!) and I have been waiting a long time to write my own story, so I figured what better time than tonight to get started!
I am a first generation collegian, both in immediate and extended family (except one male cousin) so I was pretty hopeless going into this whole recruitment thing..
A little history...
I will be rushing as a sophomore but my story has to begin with my freshman year... I knew UCF was for me and I believe Greek Life is too. The day I got my acceptance letter I signed up for Recruitment and spent weeks reading the likes of Greek Rank and Juicy Campus (TERRIBLE, I KNOW, PLEASE JUST KEEP READING!) As the naive girl I was, I believed the rumors and stereotypes and thought I knew where I belonged. Unfortunately, two weeks before recruitment my Grandma became sick and I decided it was more important to spend my time before with her out of state.
As sad as I was, it was probably the best decision I could have made. I knew I still wanted to be Greek and fortunately got to see a lot of the UCF chapters my first year. Girls were in my classes, holding fundraisers, blood drives, helping me study for tests, and somewhere along the line I realized you can’t always trust what an anonymous person writes on a website.
Now..
I have grown, matured, and realized any home at UCF would be a GREAT one. I’ve seen some of my best friends go to other campuses and join chapters of all “tiers” and reputations and none of them could be any happier with the choices they made. And now it’s my turn!
I really think I owe the women of Greek Chat a huge thanks, you have prepared me in every way, from knowing to get recommendations to etiquette. And to thank them I want to do something a little out of the ordinary in recent recruitment seasons. Despite advice, I am going to write an honest recruitment thread without giving much thought to discretion, and promise to post a pseudo name/ real name list of the chapters after bid day.
I know a lot of women will think this can hurt my recruitment. But I assure you I have the upmost respect for the Panhellenic women of UCF, and have no reason to disrespect any of them. I believe I can be honest without being rude or hurtful. I love reading the stories from years past that revealed all. They were the most helpful, relatable, believable, rush stories on Greek Chat and I don’t understand why we can’t all be like that!
So on that note, I obviously go to UCF, GO KNIGHTS! They are home to ten wonderful chapters:
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Xi Delta
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Kappa Delta
Pi Beta Phi
Zeta Tau Alpha
In no order, coded with my School Supplies code names (lame I know, but I’m a little nostalgic for the days of getting excited about school shopping):
Scissors
Glue
Paint
Markers
Paper
Pencils
Folders
Binders
Crayons
Backpack
I really hope you can enjoy my story, and that I can make all of you who have offered me help proud. Thanks for reading!
