Retainment for the Next Semester

Just a topic that came off the top of my head. What's the general feeling of "retainment"of new members to the next semester, aka "holding over"? Does it happen in your chapter? What are some of the reasons for it?

this seems to be a much more common thing with fraternities than sororities (at least when talking NPC). The only times i've really heard of NPC sorority new members being held over would be due to health reasons or poor grades or having to withdraw from school that semester for things such as family emergencies.

Otherwise, I don't necessarily see the point. Recruitment should help you determine if you want someone to join your group. The pledge period is a good time to make sure. If you don't know by the end of the pledge period if you want an individual as a bro or sis, that's sorta messed up. You've had a long time to get to know someone, make up your damn mind. To make them go through all that crap again isn't cool,IMO

One of my housemates pledged a sorority on campus. However, she failed the national test, and decided along with her NME to hold off initiation so she could have another semester to learn the history of the sorority.

While not quite the same thing, my Alpha class were all held over to the following semester. We all joined through COR and the chapter had miscalculated how many weeks were left in the semester. We would have been initiated Finals Week, so instead they put it off until two weeks before school got started in August (aka "Spirit Week", the week before Recruitment)

Yes this can and does happen for a myrid of reasons.

While I cannot speak for NPC of course, it does happen in NIC Greeks.

Grades, Non Participation, being more concerned about other people than Your possible New Brothers, sickness, and knowledge of your information of your organization.

I am sure from first hand knowledge where the problem might lay. It is not something to get overly upset about and just quit, but understand where the problem was and try to correct it.
