Talking Mardi Gras 2005- who's going?

Sounds like I'll be down in time for Krew of Orpheus and general drunken melee.

Quote:
Mardi Gras 2005 News & Notes:

* Academy Award-winning actress Marisa Tomei has been named Grand Marshal of the 2005 Krewe of Endymion parade (February 5th); music acts Hootie & the Blowfish and the Pointer Sisters will appear in the parade, and will also perform at the Endymion Extravaganza (along with The Nobles, Rockin' Doopsie, and Cowboy Mouth).

* Actor Sean Astin ("Lord of the Rings") has been named celebrity monarch for the 2005 Krewe of Bacchus parade. Last year's "King of Bacchus" Elijah Wood will also appear in the parade. Bacchus rolls on February 6th (Super Bowl Sunday).

* Country music star Toby Keith has been named as the celebrity monarch for the Krewe of Orpheus (on February 7th). He will also perform along with Orpheus founder Harry Connick Jr. at Orpheuscapade (the post-parade party).

* Rock legends The Go-Go's will appear in the 2005 Krewe of Muses parade (February 2nd).

* The 2005 Krewe Du Vieux Parade & Ball are scheduled for Saturday, January 22, 2005; the King of Krewe du Vieux for 2005 will be New Orleans R&B legend Al "Carnival Time" Johnson (who wrote & sang the classic Mardi Gras tune, "Carnival Time").

I want to go sooooooo bad but no one wants to go w/me. My fiancee tells me he'll take me but not til next year. I wanna go now & just go crazy, have fun, & experience Mardi Gras where it's supposed to be celebrated. Mardi Gras parties are fun but nothing beats the real thing.

I went a couple of years ago for a couple of days; it was absolutely insane, a load of fun. The amount of booze, Popeye's and jambalaya that I had made me sick for a couple of weeks afterwards.

I actually got an invitation to go back down this year, but I won't be able to make it. Everyone who goes, have fun and be safe.

I would love to head down to Mardi Gras! Does anyone know if it is super expensive (and inflated) to go down here at this time? Or is it about the same as going any other time of the year?

I'm going to miss Mardi Gras this year, but I'm making it a point to visit New Orleans and Baton Rouge sometime this spring.

I checked the fares and it's actually pretty cheap flying from Hawaii around that time...I just can't get any time off.

Mardi Gras is for hippies and anyone that says they "might be going" really means "I'm not going at all but I want to look cool and say that I may go."

(Ain't nothin' wrong with some hippies though.)

Yes, especially lodging! It is much more expensive because they know folks are coming from all around. I highly recommend that you use any travel points/miles/discounts that you have!

Mr. Trojangal has family down there so we lucky if we decide to go down there.

I was supposed to, but things change. Mostly the opportunity to go to Europe instead. We'll go next year though - already started planning. All our friends are going this year and reading about it will just make me miss it worse

Hokay, screw what I said.

By the end of this weekend, I'm hoping to book my flight to New Orleans for February 1st, arriving on the 2nd. I'll be there for a week.

Luckily I won't have to worry about lodging this time around!

And Blaine, you know me. I'm so not the hippie type.
