YOUR Year 2004 In Review...

Since the TV stations are doing it, I figure we could do it too. So how would you characterize your 2004? Good or bad, a blessing or a curse?

As for me, it was a good year.

I got appointed the advisor for a colony of my fraternity.
Started my own business,
Took a really cool vacation - first real vacation I have ever taken as an adult,
Broke up with the ex, but learned tons about myself from it,
Made new friends,
Started working out and have dramatically improved my fitness level.



So how was your year? Highlights?

My year in review:

• I completed graduate school
• I became a chapter adviser
• I got my dream job
• The chapter I advised had the best recruitment in recent history
• Maintained my weight loss - not too keen that I haven't lost anymore, but I'm okay with where I am...for now.

It wasn't a bad year.

I made the decision to self-publish my novel and that's going along full speed ahead.

I'm still loving being a substitute teacher and I've had several long-term assignments.

I had a few deaths among friends and family.

Romantically, I dated a loser in the spring but found someone special near the close of the year.

But for some reason, I like odd numbered years better.

-I finally bought myself a puppy, and he is the greatest thing that's ever happened to me
-My parents bought me my dream car
-I got to spend a month in Italy over the summer
-I got an awesome GPA for this fall semester
-I turned 21!!!
-Finally got over lots of emotional issues that I had been dealing with for years

It has been an excellent year, I'm sad to see it go!

My year in review:

*Started the new year in Ireland on a vacation (lots of fun!)
*Spent 5 weeks in France this summer
*Relationship has gotten better after a rocky time
*Finished my teaching credential (well January 7th is the official last seminar, but it's done!)
*Did not finish my masters yet. (05 I hope!)
*Still enjoy my job and enjoy my students
*Went to 2 weddings, and 2 friends are expecting (yay them!)

Not a bad year
I'm looking forward to 05.

it's been a pretty good year!

*my relationship has grown stronger
*i feel pretty secure in my job (finally!)
*my boyfriend has found a great job
*my finances are improving
*all of my friends have gotten engaged (literally all of them who weren't already married)


looking forward to 2005 and hoping it will be my turn to get engaged!

2004 was a great year compared to 2003. It could have been better and I've definitely had the same amounts of ups and downs, but I had fun:

• Two words: not-BF
• being stalked online via my LJ because a girl was jealous of me and the not-BF
• the Outer Banks, North Carolina
• Centennial Convention in Chicago & AXJules
• greeklawgirl, squirrely girl, mu_agd
• saying farewell to loved ones and welcoming in new lives
• getting my isht together for grad school
• my first year of bartending
• identity theft!
• lost a bunch of weight and I'm almost near my goal

In no particular order:

- finished master's degree

- attended AGD Convention in Chicago and met many GCers!

- finished the manuscript for my novel (still waiting to hear from publisher re: synopsis. I sent them a query letter and received a response within days, but the synopsis is taking much, much longer)

- had an article published in a non-campus paper

- was sort of part of a wedding party (greeted the groom and his sort-of groomsmen when he came to pick up the bride...Chinese tradition....the couple did not have us take part in the service, though)

My 2004 has been awesome.

I started working on my nursing degree making the best grades of my college career(will probably be a lifetime career).

I became president of the Young Adults group at my church and have really brought things along way since I took over the group in June.

I got back involved in the church which proved to be not only an awesome thing for me spiritually, but by being involved in my young adults group I met the love of my life!

The "Friends" sitcom ended thank the Lord!

Having said that, I met the love of my life and got engaged this Christmas Eve When we get married i'll be a happy step-mother of three(two boys and a girl), and an aunt of two little nephews

I joined the Theta alumnae chapter in my town and became the corresponding secretary. I also became a chapter advisor for my Theta chapter(which i have now resigned from).

I also joined the wonderful sisterhood of Beta Sigma Phi.

I discovered that I enjoy eating chili,potroast,deep fried turkey, and pumpkin cheesecake (courtesy of my fiance!).

On an academic/clinical note: I have also discovered why anal sex is not a good idea---by taking microbiology this summer ----lets just say that some people have some REALLY NASTY ASSES........once again why it should remain an exit only.

I was just thinking about this today.. my 2004:

Highlights:
Stranded in St. Louis during special AGD training and got a chance to really bond with other sisters who were also stranded

Centennial AGD Convention in Chicago (got to meet lots of GCers and see sisters I adore, including one who was inducted onto our International Council, which was just awesome)

Work was awesome this year, two bonuses in one calendar year, TONS accomplished.. we really did a lot of big projects this year, plus they hired another "network guy" for our group so that's even more job security (two below me seniority wise, out of 4)

Kids are great, always. My son has been behaving better in school this year, which is AWESOME for all of us. He has calmed down in a lot of ways. My daughter (despite starting to have some of those hormonal outbursts) is really maturing and becoming more and more helpful around the house.

My health: It was rocky at the beginning of the year but we've adjusted my meds and I've essentially been in remission since late August (Crohn's, as most of you know from other posts). This was the first holiday season in YEARS that I felt great and had the energy to really enjoy the holiday preparations. "I feel good.... I knew that I would"

Lowlights:
It was a tough year financially, in spite of two bonuses at work, but I've worked things out and am feeling more secure.

My mother's health was up and down all year. It was truly the roughest year for that, but she is still with us and she is slowly getting a little stronger. My brother came through with some financial support to help her get services that she badly needed so things are quite a bit better now.

My ex and I have had a terrible year... lots and lots of fighting as he's getting weirder and weirder about money. Took me to court over child support (he pays a whopping $20/week and wanted it lowered!), fought over paying for backpacks, shoes, school supplies...everything. He's been a real a**wipe this year.


Here's to a great 2005 for everybody!

My year was overall very good.

Good:
-Proposed to my girlfriend (she said yes)
-Got a new job and am really figuring out where I'd like to go professionally
-My grandma's health has gotten better (for being 90 years old, she's doing pretty well)
-Became a Godfather
-UConn won the national title

Not so good:
-Found out I have a heart problem, and had a couple of other health issues this year, so my day-to-day life has had to change
-Red Sox/Yankees; need I say more? (although my health stuff put that in perspective)


All in all though, this was a solid year. Bring on 2005.

-- Shipped out for the U.S. Air Force, after enlisting in September 2003.

-- Graduated Basic Military Training without being recycled, which included folding shirts in six-inch squares, going into a gas chamber and taking my gas mask off to prove that it worked (I trusted them anyway, but they still made me, oh well ), running Hell's Half-Mile Field Training Exercise, and transitioning from a Civilian to a Trainee to an Airman in the World's Best Air Force.

--Spent the summer in extremely hot and humid Biloxi, Mississippi, where I studied and learned how to do my job for the Air Force, Communications and Computer Systems Operator, all while being an Airman Leader and basically being the one in charge when the Sergeants were gone, and transitioning from having a weekend curfew and having to stay on base to where I would spend all night on the beach (when it was actually cool).

--Escaped Biloxi mere hours before every base in the Southeastern U.S. shut down in preperation of the impending landfall of Hurricane Ivan, of which Biloxi was scheduled to get the brunt. The normally 60 minute shuttle to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport took over four as everyone was trying to leave the coast for safer places up north. The Airport apparantly shut down about an hour after my flight took off.

--Spent two weeks home on leave where I got to celebrate my birthday at home, but without my mom, who was called out to be a Red Cross disaster volunteer in Florida.

--Arrived back in San Antonio, this time as permanent party, where i'm enjoying Air Force life but hating Texas. Attention San Antonians: There is more to the world than The Alamo, The Spurs, and Mexican Food!!!!!!

--Took a trip to Chicago to watch my brother graduate the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy and become an officer of the Northbrook, IL Police Department (remember that high school scandal a few years back....yup....)

first of all - congrats to everybody on all of their accomplishments -

here's mine -

lost 10 pounds (then gained it back)

presented research (and won an award) at SEPA in atlanta - where i also got my car broken into...

spring break in orlando/daytona beach with a great friend

received the outstanding grad award for the psych dept.

graduated cum laude with degrees in psychology and history

went to san fransisco/tahoe with my father and husband to see my cousin get married

celebrated my first wedding anniversary

met some AMAZING sisters in chicago at convention and howled at the moon!!!! **OohTeenyWahine and greeklawgirl!!!!**

presented my research at APA in hawaii where i also ate pinapple ice cream delights with sandy while enjoying the view at the PCC

welcomed two foreign exchange students to my mother's house and watched the world through their eyes for the last 4 months

started my master's degree in clinical psychology and learned to give IQ tests (next semester is personality testing!!!!)

taught my first intro to psych class

took a much needed fall break in chicago with greeklawgirl and mu_agd!

ended up with a 3.75 GPA for my first semester in grad school

had my "personal stability" questioned (that's for you maria!!! hah hah)

finally got to meet my niece and sister-in-law when we went to maine for christmas (btw - we did get our luggage back from the philly/comair fiasco)

and, gonna watch some movies and make new year's resolutions with my husband tonight!

Hmmm, 2004--a pretty good year!

*We continued decorating and loving the house we moved into
in 2003.

*I spent lots of time on the road, teaching extra classes. Yuk.

*ASLFRose graduated from her university cum laude!

*Baby Berry and her cousin went AOII!

*The kids made us very proud with their activities and honors--
kept us busy with football, gymnastics, Scouts, & cheerleading!

*We survived another home study and are approved to adopt
again!

2004 was neither outstandingly good or outstandingly terrible. It was simply there. A few things:

* I became Advisory Board Chair and Chapter Council Adviser for the chapter I advise

* I became a member of the GKAA

* I went to our biennial Convention in Kansas City

* I went to NYC for the first time

There are a few other things that aren't worth mentioning.
