Mary Kay Makeup

Sorry if there's a thread about this somewhere-I had no luck searching.

Is anyone a Mary Kay Independent Consultant? If so, do you like it and how successful have you been? I signed up a few days ago and I am trying to make my inventory decision. I've made my "wish list" of clients, but I am afraid that I will purchase too much stuff in the beginning and have a difficult time trying to sell it all. Thanks for any input.

A friend of my mom's used to sell MK. It was a great for a while and she made money, it was popular for a little.. and she even paid me to be an assistant of sorts to keep track of her inventory. She bought ALOT.. well all of a sudden no one wanted it anymore... even her customers began to drift away.. ones that would buy tons would buy a lipstick or a powder refill until finally they just stopped.

she was stuck with ALOT of mechandise.. and still has it.. every christmas she is always giving away samples and products.. its sad but it just lost its drive.

and i dont think it was her, she was still out there doing parties and promoting same as she had been, it just wasnt catching on.

Alot of it may be due to the increase of popularity of Avon and maybe the decrease in prices of some name brand makeups.

i dunno just a guess...

if i were you id start off as small as possible.. try and make sure that you have a customer base lined up.. friends and family and do some MK parties to show off products.

the products are great, getting started and keeping up the work is the hard part.

GOOD LUCK!!!

I think the internet probably has something to do with it as well. You don't have to go to a department store (which a lot of women are uncomfortable with) to buy "better" makeup anymore, you can get it online. And a lot of the drugstore makeup has improved greatly in quality.

Make sure you don't overlap with other consultants - try to find people who will be repeat customers and buy the same thing over & over - they are the backbone of a business like this. I agree with Moonstar, start small. Good luck
