Britney Spears, the self-styled pop princess who wed for the second time last weekend, is telling friends she is expecting her first child, The Mail on Sunday has learned.
A source close to the singer said last night: "Britney has told only her family and closest circle that she is pregnant."
The pregnancy, which Spears, 22, has privately admitted, is a dream come true, and marks the end of a turbulent year for the pop star.
First she eloped to Las Vegas with childhood sweetheart Jason Alexander, but the marriage was annulled after 55 hours. She met her new husband, dancer Kevin Federline, in April while he was still involved with actress Shar Jackson.
Federline, 26, has reportedly signed a pre-nuptial agreement which gives him $250,000 for each year of marriage if he and Spears split.
Last night the source said: "Britney only learned she was expecting recently and she's less than eight weeks pregnant. It's why she pulled her wedding date forward to September."
