Feeling sad today :(

Happy return from a long weekend. I just found out that one of my client's passed away yesterday. I am waiting to hear back from the morgue exact cause of death but I strongly suspect it was due to suicide/overdose. This is one of the major downsides of what I do. Unfortunately you can't save everyone from themselves.

(((Hugs, sweetie)))

I'm so sorry about your client's death. I'm sure you can accept things intellectually, but that doesn't make the sadness go away.

When I feel discouraged about not making enough of a difference I remember a story that I heard. It might be a little corny and you might have heard it before... but I'll write it anyway.

A man was walking along a beach that was full of starfish who had been washed ashore. He picked up a starfish and tossed it back into the sea. Then he did it again... and again.

Someone walking by said, "Why do you bother tossing those starfish back into the sea? Can't you see that the beach is littered with them? You'll never be able to save them all!".

The gentleman picked up another starfish... tossed it into the ocean and said, "Made a difference to that one.".

That's so sweet. I am going to save that! Yeah, I understand that you can't save everyone. I knew something was going on cuz we couldn't get ahold of this person for over 2 weeks and there was some other negative stuff going on in her life. If she did commit suicide (which I suspect) I think it is so sad that people get to the point where they don't care anymore and just want to end it all, even if there are support networks in place. Depression is a very scary thing to deal with.

don't be sad!

your job seems to be very difficult to those with a loving heart like yours, but there are still people who need your help and guidance.
