Weird Things You Said As A Kid

I was reading someone's post where they abbreviated "probably" as "prolly" and it made me chuckle, reminding me of how I used to say "pry" as an abbreviation for "probably."

Did anyone else have weird abbreviations or mispronunciations? I was also the kid who said "pacific" instead of "specific."

I wanted this to be the place where I told the story of how, because of the way they were standing, when I went to the zoo at the tender age of 3 I told my daddy I saw the el-fants and they had "three legs and no neck at all."

I didn't do that stuff for very long. I developed pretty quickly when it came to verbal skills. Now being physically coordinated -- that's another story

I was...it sucked..except I got to miss class every tuesday, hehe

I would get compound words mixed up. Like, "lipstick" became "sticklip" and "washcloth" was "clothwash."

Until I was 5 or 6, I called dresses, "jresses". Also, I would say "su-pah-getti" for "spaghetti" because that's how my grandmother pronounced it.

I went through a phase where I rhymed everyone's names, until I rhymed my Aunt Sissy's name, at which point I learned that kids shouldn't say "pissy."

I also used to want to be a photographer, but I couldn't say it in kindergarten.

I couldn't pronounce (and still can't for that matter) Massachusetts. I could say everything until the end, which became s**ts. I also pronounced salmon with the L.

I called chap stick, lipchap. I actually still do sometimes but I have tried to not because people laugh.

I also can't (and never could) pronounce "kindergarten" and "wheel barrow"

My whole family called "roast beef" "roast beast", from the Grinch. When I got to college, I had to really work at saying roast beef instead.. it was just a silly thing.

In my Italian family, spaghetti was lumped into the generic term of "pasta", so there was on mispronunciation there.

My kids have had some funny ones. My son called Mc Donald's "Happy Donald's" for years, because he got Happy Meals there. Tostadas are still "tadas" to him and chicken nuggets are "nuggies".

I had a greatuncle I pretty much considered my grandpa, and everytime I'd go over to his house he'd give me crackers.

Being that I was fat kid with a speech impediment, I couldn't stay "crackers" at age 2, so I called him "Ca-Ca..or Ka-ka..." however you want to spell it.

Mom said sometimes I wouldn't say both syllables and I just called him "Cac". Yeah.

And even though I knew what Caca was and I learned what Cac sounded like, I still called him that for the next 20-some years till he passed.

We did, too!

I was about 10 before I heard that the "bad word" wasn't funk, but very similar. The only time I ever heard it said at home was just before my elder brother was thrown out the through the front door!
