Panhellenic Involvement
Hey guys! I am running for Panhellenic Exec. at the end of this upcoming semester and was wondering if any of you out there had ideas for making Panhellenic life better for all of us! Like, new ideas and/or ideas that have been done at your school. What types of activities does your school do to make NPC life, a friendlier atmosphere on your campus?!?!?!
Thanks in advance for all your help!!

Play well with others.
If it isn't already being done, then work closely and well with your campus' other Greek councils and organizations. (IFC, NPHC et al.) If this is already happening, then keep the course.

At Ole Miss this past year they started a buddy dinner program. Each sorority switches up their pledge classes and some go to one house and some go to the other house. It went very well and they are going to start it up again this fall. Also, if you don't already have a Panhellenic Fundraiser, start one....

we also did that
at fsu back in the day. panhellenic sponsored "exchange dinners". part of zta would go have dinner at the pi phi house and part of pi phi would go have dinner at the zta house.meanwhile, other sororities were doing the same thing. this was done once a month. each visitor was met by a hostess who sort of treated her like a recruitment guest i.e., making small talk, introducing her around, so that she felt welcomed and comfortable.

Making sure all events are registered! IE: So that XYZ and ABC don't have a philanthropy event within one day of each other, or "Greek 101" isn't held on the day that QWT is having their initation!
Also, step up efforts to get Greeks doing more university-oriented community service. It would be great to plan events with the service Greeks.
Years ago, we used to do a Greek Block Party. Keep doing Trick or Treat Down Greek Street!

Make sure, there is inraaction between Soros. Campus Charity Events for one.
Point out that that kind of action is important to not only Each Soroity but all at said School for Growth!
I guess Soloderity is the key word.!

I understand how hard it can be to create a sense of community among the NPC chapters. One thing that our Panhel is trying is that we have chosen our own philanthropy - our university's R.A.P.E. center. We chose it because it benefits all women on campus, not necessarily just greeks. We are organizing a 5K walk/run to benefit the R.A.P.E. center...this way all sororities can participate in a philanthropy for a good cause that benefits them AND there is NO competition involved. Almost all the philanthropies sororities are involved in on campus are put on by fraternities and they become huge competitions between houses - which of course turns into problems between these houses. We're also trying to get sisters from every chapter involved in community service and other events together. Also, try your best to keep an open line of communication...it's much better for girls to bitch to your face then to have them get together and bitch about how much they hate Panhel behind your back. Hope this helps and good luck!

I think things have changed slightly with the greek system at Tech. I do know that while I was there interation b/w the NPC sororities was not common. I do think that they have increased the interaction w/ sisterhood activities to promote the Greek 'Bond'. I know that I would've liked to have seen this while I was active. It always seemed that the sororities were always in competition with each other.
I like the idea mentioned above where houses exchanged pledge classes!

At NMSU we have round tables. Where members of each of the sororities executive boards get together with the other sorority exec members and they talk about things that are problems and how to handle them.
I attended the one for treasurer/financial and it was very helpful. There was also one for the retention chairs of each chapter. I also think each group was paired up with an exec member from Panhellenic that matched their job.

Tech has these as well and they seemed to work great for our exec board members.

I don't know if you have houses, but one school I worked with that does had a progressive dinner. They only have 4 sororities, so first house was appetizers, second was salad and soup, third was entree and fourth was dessert. This was a pretty derisive campus with the women, and the dinner really helped them make friends and keep the peace so to speak.
