Leave a voice mail that you are thinking of her. Drop off food, offer to take care of her pets while she is at the hospital, make sure her bills get paid or errands get taken care of. See if she needs any $$ (if can afford) to help cover some expenses. Offer to see that her lawn gets mowed (if she has one) or plants watered. Do her laundry, make her a meal. HUG HER. Bring her a book to read while he is sleeping. See if you can run interference with her well meaning relatives who might be overwhelming her with phone calls and visits.
In other words, think about what would help you if you were in her shoes. Things like I listed would have been a big help for my husband when I had surgery last year.
