Gomery blames Chrétien for sponsorship flaws

Former prime minister Jean Chrétien and his chief of staff must be held responsible for the flawed running of the federal sponsorship program from 1994 to 2003, Justice John Gomery said in his first report on the scandal, made public Tuesday.

How long does someone in the US wait for health care if they don't have insurance, don't have a huge amount of liquid assets and it's not a life threatening problem?

First of all the Bill of Rights has been replaced by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Secondly this has nothing to do with heath care or waiting times at hospitals, but with the rampid corruption of the government.

Thirdly wait times depend on the necessity of the procedure. This weekend i hit my head pretty good and was in for a CT scan within a couple of hours of going to the ER.

Depends on where they go - at the hospital where I used to work, they'd have the exact same wait time as someone with health insurance. They would just have to fill out paperwork for Free Care, or meet with one of the hospital financial counselors for a payment plan.

I never had to wait that long when I lived in Atlanta. Granted, I had to use emergency room services (which meant that people with more serious problems were always put in front of me), but I never had to wait more than 6 or 8 hours.

Recently I had a health scare that I thought was pretty serious, so I went to Vancouver General Hospital's emergency room - and I sat there for about 6 hours. I was appalled. I thought I was dying, but I sat there for 6 hours before a doctor even looked at me.

There was one nurse working triage on a Saturday night (lots of shootings, and OD cases on Saturday nights) and she only spoke English. There was a Chinese woman puking into a bucket in the waiting room, and no one in her family spoke English, and the hospital didn't have a translator or anyone on medical staff available to find out what was wrong with her.

I'm so glad I work for a company that pays for additional health care and which will pay if I decide to seek treatment in the US. The Canadian Health Care system scares me. Canada does a lot of things right, but their health care system needs a serious overhaul.

I have a few comments about our health care system. Yes, it is flawed. However, as a person with a chronic illness I would be completely screwed if it wasn't for our health care system. I don't find that my wait times are very long. Our triage system is quite good. Because of my illness I do get seen a head of people, and sometimes people are seen a head of me. If it wasn't for our health care system, I couldn't afford to be alive. I can't get private health insurance because of my pre-exisiting condiditon. My school's health insurance plan only covers 90% of my prescription drugs. It does not cover any other medical equipment or supplies that I need. I am too old to be covered under my parents insurance. It's not perfect, but neither is the US, and quite frankly, I am much better off here.

Anyway, back to the actual topic of this thread.

I'm glad Chretien is being held responsible, but I don't understand how Martin got off scott free. He was the former Finance Minister. How did he not know what was going on??!!!
I'd rather not see an election around christmas time, but if there is one, I already know who I am voting for.

It takes 6 to 8 weeks to get in to see a gastro when you have insurance and a physician referral around here. I knew someone who was referred to an orthopedic surgeon for ACL surgery and had to wait 3 months to get in. I had a co-worker be referred to Physical Therapy for his back and it was a month before he could get an appointment. Those were all people WITH insurance. Without insurance, you have to have proof that you are able to pay also. I'm not familiar with what type of Free Care program you're referring to, because there isn't one in Michigan. There is medicaid, but if you have more than $2000 in assets (including a car or house), you don't qualify. Sure, you can get Emergency treatment, but that isn't health care. That's not mammograms, routine tests, or non-life threatening issues.

If I did not pay out of My Pocket I would not have any. I cannot afford it but so what?

I am becoming and am now one of the Forgotten who have spent their Lives keeping this Country going as a Small Business Person!

So When Do I Blow My Brains out when I cannot do certain or pay for certain things?

Last I heard, it's supposed to happen in March. I know that goes against Martin's original pledge, but this particular commentator seemed pretty confident that it won't happen before the end of the year.

The final report isn't due till the spring, after that Martin has promised an election. This is just the 'Fact Finding' report, there is more to come in the next few months.
