no they don't. and this was brought up the other day too...because as the other thread mentioned here - we have voted on letting alum in meetings,etc..and there is one that they have in the past decided to not invite to meetings, recruitment, etc.

Despite that I've asked her to join the advisory board - And i told her straight out why she was never invited, etc and if she exhibits any of the old "back in my day..." attitude, I will ask her to leave.

I just think everyone has underestimated this woman (she's my grand sapphire).

I'm really not sure what role the chapter plays in picking advisors - with me the old advisor asked and told the RCD and that was that.

Well that's how it worked with me... I was invited by the current board to join... and now national has been told and it's being made "offical" and this weekend at initiation some girls were like You're an adviser ? didn't know that ?!! and then one of the girls who was a transfer from another chapter was like "you dont' vote an advisers ?!" and I was like.. Umm.. no... I was just asked/invited by the others to take on the role... so I did... and she seemed really suprised... I know it's going to be a bit weird because I'm so young (24) and just graduated in Dec. and have still pretty much been around a lot so alot of the girls still kinda see me as active.... but it's not like Im' a key adviser (Im' recruitment adviser) an I have the backing of the older advisers so it'll be good, and it's kinda good because I have more of an "insiders" view of the chapter than the older advisers and can really know what's been going on and what needs to be fixed.

If I remember right...

The Key Advisor is done through CO, but the advisory board is at the discression of the Key Advisor. The chapter really doesn't have a say in choosing the board - but can make suggestions. They can, however, deal with the Key Advisor through CO and effectively make her step down... this is what happened with our first one because she was in another state, but she was still part of that decision.

All of our advisors have been from other chapters. We were told when I was a new member, that you couldn't hold an advisors position at your chapter until you've been alum for 4 years.

I wouldn't mind being on the board... but I'm sure some of my sisters wouldn't like it much. All well.

I was alum for just barely 2 years when i became CKA, and my financial advisor graduated in 2002, my VA advisor in 2000...we're all young (the last CKA was a founding sister though, so we had a good advisor role model)

Hey Beth,
Well, at an E-board retreat that I attended in February, we were told you didn't have to wait any time. This came from the top people, so I know they wouldn't lie. So if a sister goes alum, she could advise her chapter that following year.

Also, I think more people than you think would LOVE to have you as an advisor.

Also, Did everybody know you could kick out your advisors from meetings. You can call them out if they are not dressed appropriatly or out of order.

Well Beth, or anyone else interested, the first thing you need to do in order to become an advisor is to go to the alum section of the Phi Sig website and fill out a volunteer interest form. Once you've filled it out and submited it they will contact you in a couple days with possible volunteer spots based on what you filled out on the form.

I just did this and they sent me three things that i might be interested in based on my interests that i checked - member of the marketing committee for the Foundation, a program facilitator, and the Iota Gamma Alumnae Association Liasion. I emailed back that I was interested in the facilitator and liasion stuff and forwarded the marketing stuff on to Irma and Adriana, encouraging them to volunteer. Once the Scribe gets the Change of Status forms sent in I will have interviews for the two things I'm interested in. I'll let everyone know once I hear anything.

For all the new Alum I strongly encourage all of you to fill out the volunteer form. Phi Sig will only be as strong as all the sisters and volunteers make it. The more volunteers the stronger we can be.

LITP,
Carolyn

Yeah I filled out that form and the only thing they could put me in with was Alumnae Panhellenic which I coudl've joined myself... AND the one which I am to be involved with is pretty laid back and doesn't do much... but I guess I can try and change it right ! I really wanted something to do with recruitment or extension... but oh well... just wait one day ladies I WILL be director of extension !! OHH BTW I did get an interview for the field consultant position !!! They're calling on Monday !!

Oh, forgot to mention...

Carolyn,
I think I did fill out that form online... I got an email from a sister out here, and we've been playing phone tag for about two months now. (I think I'll try calling her again, right now) So hopefully she'll have some good news for me about volunteering!

We'll see...

Well it looks like it is official. I am now going to be the Iota Gamma Alumnae Association Liasion per CO. Now if I can just get all the alumnae to join the yahoo group and hopefully get them more involved, espcially on the regional or national level.

I'm supposed to hear from another sister sometime this week to get more information on the programming facilitator position.

So how did the interviews go for the field consultant positions? Anyword yet?

For all of those alum on GC who haven't yet filled out the Volunteer interest form on the official website (alumnae section) I strongly encourge you to do it. I can't wait until I finish my thesis in December so that I can get even more involved
