Funny you should bring this up today, W. I was going to start a thread about what everyone's doing for IRD this year!
The LA and OC alumnae chapters are getting together at a golf/country club with Delta Tau for IRD this year. They're expecting a BIG turnout for Centennial.
I'm excited because Patti Floren is our guest speaker, so I know she will be excellent.
What is everyone else doing?

I am unfortunately not going to be able to make it to Zeta Theta's IRD, which is being held with Zeta Beta, Zeta Mu, Zeta Pi, and the NJ Alumnae Club. However, I am going to DC that weekend with 7 other sisters, so it'll almost be like a mini-IRD.

In Michigan we have 7 collegiate chapters, about 5 alumnae clubs/chapters, and hopefully some of our Junior Circle members attending...that's about 275 sisters! Our speaker is Dottie Schoeneker Skinner, past Grand President.

You should probably ask your IRD chair. I know that the Southern California IRD doesn't require pastels for alumnae. But when I was attending IRD in San Francisco, they did require white, cream, or pastels.
Then again, there are so many Big Squirrels around here, I'm sure someone will be able to answer your question.

Wow, I've never heard of that tradition! I'm going up for IRD this year for the bay area one, and I guess I might need to go shopping! Maria, is that a recent tradition? I don't remember that requirement for the IRDs we attended from Sonoma... I thought only initiation had the requirement for dress.
I'm excited to be attending two IRDs this year - southern California and northern California! It will be my first time at an IRD with my collegiate chapter since I graduated 7 years ago. I can't wait!

Speaking from experience, it might have to do with the fact that some chapters do Spring Initiation the same day with IRD. I know my chapter does (although it's not always the case).
Every IRD I've been has always been collegians in white, and alumnae in white, cream, or pastel. Sometimes tradition and what "you're used to" is the case.
It kinda helps that white, cream, and pastel are 'colors' of Spring.

I've noticed that some chapters aren't doing IRD on the 17th. I thought that everyone had to do it then?

I didn't respond at first to the pastels thread because I thought it was an April Fool's joke. I've been to IRD in 3 states and I had never heard of it.
I agree, I thought that IRD was supposed to be the 3rd Saturday in April. Unfortunately, in recent years, my chapter has had Family Day, allowing for a small timeframe for IRD. That's why I was glad that they finally separated the 2. Hopefully, they will do the same next year and put IRD on the 3rd Sat. so that alumnae will always remember to block that day.
One reason for the different days this time is because of the 100th anniversary. Celebrations are happening that probably haven't happened before and "most" AGDs can't be in 2 places at one time.

For most chapters in Michigan, the third weekend in April is the right before Finals begin. For that reason, we hold it earlier. Easter is usually one of the first two Sundays so it's always whichever weekend that Easter isn't.
We wear badge attire (skirts/dresses of any color/length).

IRD is a week away and I still haven't figured out what I'm wearing yet (all I know is that it is business casual and doesn't have to be pastel or white)

IRD Was Great!
Hello Sisters!
I am de-lurking to say hello and let you all know that the Delta Theta IRD celebration was AWESOME!!
It was so wonderful to go home to campus and share IRD with just about 50-years worth of sisters (we have our 50th in 4 years).
We had a good showing from my pledge class and the years before and after (late 80's to mid 90's). Everyone is doing so well!
Some special sisters weren't able to make it because of distance and family commitments, but we're gearing up to get everyone together again in 4 years for the chapter's 50th.
OMG, campus has changed, all these beautiful state of the art buildings. And, the Theta's are back on campus and were graceful enough to let us see their brand new house. Wow! It is a beautiful house.
It seems like the greek system is doing well and Panhellenic relations are good with all the houses.
Sigh...things were so much fun and easier! Those years just flew by! Where did they go??
Happy IRD to all of you! Go Alpha Gam! I am so proud that I was one of the "chosen few".
