I've gotten that a couple times as an email. Always wondered if it is just those words that it works for. Would people still be able to read what I was writing if I put the letters of my words in the wrong order all the time? Has to be some psych major out there that can answer this.

It has to do with the way we read all things. People only really read part of the word anyway, so as long as the important letters are in the right order we can still understand what we are reading.

It's something along those lines.
