Subject: We have the Nomination! Help us Keep Our Majority!

Dear Friend:

This past week we were able to seal our bid for the Democratic nomination for the Georgia General Assembly. I am now the Democratic nominee in a House seat that has been carried by a Democrat for over 50 years but the incumbent has switched parties.

Today in Georgia, Republicans have the Governor's mansion and State Senate. The House is currently Democratic but that all hinges on a very small number of seats including the one I am seeking. This has big ramifications for Georgia. I need your help to keep this seat in the Democratic column. If Democrats loose the House the Republicans will surely redraw our United State Congressional Districts and threaten our friends like Cong. John Lewis, Cong. David Scott, Cong. Sanford Bishop, Cong. Roger Kahn, and Cong. Denise Majette.

Our campaign is a small but very critical piece of the puzzle to stop the Republican surge in the Georgia Legislature, and U.S. Congress. I need to raise another $15,000 online by May 21st. Every dollar counts! Please go to our website http://www.bellforthehouse.com and contribute $20, $50, or more today! Also sign up on our volunteer section - there is so much you can do.

Stay tuned for my nationally televised debate on CNN Headline News to air next week against the National Chair of the College Republicans! Please pass this email along to your friends!

With warmest regards, I remain:
Sincerely yours,
Ashley D Bell

Admirable. However, I kind of like the Republican surge

I am hoping with all my heart Bro. Bell wins his campaign bid. It's so funny, because before I joined a sorority, I must admit I had not met any Iota men. The one Iota man I have come in contact with so far via one of my Sorors is a real classy dude.

If he is an example of the type of men you all are raising up within your organization, then I know Bro. Bell is definitely the man for the job.

Keep up the good work Iota Phi Theta!

I'm sure Bell is a great guy

I'm sure Bell is a great guy, but he's a Democrat.

In GA, the Democrats had control of the State Senate, the State House, and the Governorship from 1880 thru 2002. Until the 1990 census, nearly every National Congressman and Senator (remember Herman Talmadge, who had an overcoat with pockets full of cash) was a Democrat.

During those 120 years of total Democrat control, the state had a terrible record in education, race relations (remember Gov. Lester Maddox), highway fund corruption, the Confederate Flag, etc. Instead of moving ahead, the legislative sessions were devoted to harassing nudist camps, naming state animals/insects/rocks, and fouling up Atlanta.

Our public schools - by all measures - are now ranked lower than both SC and MS, and ahead of the #51 ranked District of Columbia only slightly. There are still two or three public black colleges which are embarassing, under-funded, ill-equipted, and sad.

For about 30 years, until 2002, the most powerful politician was Tom Murphy, a Democrat and tyrant from a tiny rural town. He would not allow the tiny number of Republicans who got elected (only from Atlanta suburbs) to serve in any leadersihp position in the legislature, to introduce legislation with any hope of passing, or to serve their voters.

In 2002, amid a new low of Democrat schemes and illegal vote manipulation, the public finally got sick of the mess and voted in a Republican governor. After his election, several Democrat Senators saw the light and switched parties, giving the Republicans a majority in the Senate. Several more Dems switched parties after the recent legislative session.

I think the Republicans have some good ideas to bring GA into the 21st Century, and I wouldn't vote for any Democrat. I won't be ringing for Bell.

hold it down!

Much respect to the brother from Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., Mr. Bell.

I was wondering what happened to the College Dems. They faded away on my campus.

I don't doubt that this guy is a great guy but what bothers me most about the message is that it doesn't say one word about who he is or what he believes - only that he's a democrat and that should be good enough to get your vote. You aren't going to change the minds of the straight ticket voters. As a politician, you have to get the support of those that you wouldn't have otherwise - those that will switch parties to vote for someone that speaks for them. I am a republican and this guy has given me absolutely no reason to even click on the links below his name.

The message that was sent out was not to give a full synopsis on Bro. Bell's position on the campaign issues. It was to capture your attention enough to "visit the website" where the answers you seek are likely located (or will lead you to his contact information so you can voice your opinions directly). I believe what is getting lost in partisanship is the desire to truly listen to and fully examine his campaign.

Democrat, Republican, Independent, or whatever affiliation....EVERYONE in his locale or those that desire to learn about his campaign (possibly in order to get involved) should seek more information rather than take what is placed before them in a simple paragraph.

Too bad for him... I DO live in his locale and don't see any reason to seek anything further. Run on a platform that is more than, "I'm a democrat." That's not going to fly in Georgia right now... he'd stand a better chance not mentioning his party and actually getting my attention with the issues.

Political campaigning is one thing that I know, and know very well. In today's environment in Georgia, with Zell Miller leading the charge against the dems, it's going to be tough on the democrats. I'm not saying that some won't win - they will. But those that win won't be putting "DEMOCRAT" on their bumper stickers. (Why do you think the incumbent switched parties???)

Best of luck to him. Again, I'm sure he's a great guy.
