my question is " Did he know she was 14?"
I was at my little sisters elementary school promotion. The girls there were some healthy young things. Now I'm a small person but these girls were stacked. What's up with that! Maybe her body said 18 but her birth certificate said 14

He has known her for 4 years so in that time he has had to attend at least ONE BIRTHDAY PARTY!!
I teach 14 year olds and 80% of them look older than me but I have learned as he needs to: ASK THEM HOW OLD ARE YOU!!!!

Uggghhhh,
So you mean to tell me...this broham has known her since she was 10? Talk about getting them while they're young. Some teens will lie about their age. But this is ridiculous. Where did he meet her? Chuck E. Cheese

I never thought I would say this, but times have really changed. I remember my mother would always say that when I was small.."oh when I was young, a young lady would never do this or that". I never thought that I would be saying the same thing...but...
The younger generation is truly different than us. I teach a Childrens Church group of 10-12 year old girls at my Church. I am absolutely amazed at some of the things that they're talking about. They have boyfriends and all. Even at 10-12 years old, these girls are DEVELOPED - - breasts (large enough to really NEED bras), hips and waists are forming, etc. The clothes that they wear showcase their forms.
At 14 years old, there are some scandilous little girls out there. They know EXACTLY what they are doing. They've got the fake ID's and all to get into clubs and other places where they may meet these older men.
Look at the role models that they've got - - Destinys Child, Mariah Carey. Some young girls look at TV and videos and believe that's how they're supposed to look and act. They see the "big ballers" drinking and partying with the "oochie wally hoochies" and think that's the way it's supposed to be. Nobody can say that the media and videos don't have an influence on all of this. This young girl and her friend may have thought they were just the coolest thing in town since they were hanging and partying with this ball player.
Now, according to the article, he has known the girl's family for some time, so I expect that he knew her AGE. So, yes, he was completely at fault - even though this little girl may have been rolling in the fast lane. It probably wasn't the first time they had hung out. She even said that she consented to having sex, the drinking, etc.
They all need JESUS in their lives!

I think the culure of sports (in particular professional sports) in our society has begun to create an atmosphere where male athletes see violence and force as the norm. Because if you think about it, athletes spend a majority of their time playing sports, rough body to body contact with other players. Strength against strength and doing whatever it takes to win. Many of them carry that throughout everything they do in life, esp. in their relationships with women.
This case is exactly why I am a strong proponent for NOT allowing H.S. players to go straight into the professional NBA league. While grown men can and have done the same thing, the pressures that face a very young player can place them in such a situation. Personally, I think all sports teams (males and femals, NCAA/NBA/MLB/NHL/etc.) should have MANDATORY sexual assualt, rape, and sexual sensitivity training, if it is not already in place.
However, that young lady and her friend should not have been with them. Sad, but true, these types of things go on in communities all over the country. As a child, I was approached by men far older than me, as I am sure many young females have been. What took place with these young people is nothing new (unfortunately). It was just "heightened" because this young man is straight out of h.s. and an NBA player.

I think much less emphasis needs to be put on the fact that this statutory rapist is an athlete. Why don't we use more educators and plain ole good parents as role models anymore? I shudder to think that someone would let their child look up to Dennis Rodman, Shawn Kemp or some of these other nuts out here. What about the old Southern Reverends?--Stratch that, right Jesse? My point is I think we would be in a whole lot less trouble if parents put these public figures in perspective in the minds of their children
