Question cornell rush

Does anyone know if it's hard for sophomores to join a sorority at Cornell?

I have no clue, but you have a nice selection of houses:

Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Phi
Alpha Xi Delta
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Gamma
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Delta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Pi Beta Phi
Sigma Delta Tau *our Alpha chapter!!!! *

Good luck if you decide to go through rush!

I have no clue, but I'm guessing that it's probably the same as at most of the bigger Greek schools in the North -- a little harder than as a freshman, but definitely not impossible. I can't think of any Northern schools where it's really, really hard to get in as a sophomore, although I'm sure they exist.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge can weigh in.

Good luck!

Alpha Xi Delta will be conducting a colonization recruitment after Cornell's formal NPC recruitment.

A colony recruitment always is looking for new members of all classes. Upper-classmen are wanted to their leadership skills and maturity. Joining a colony as an upper classman is a good chance for immediate leadership positions as well as contributing to something entirely new on your campus.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

I have been at Cornell several times for recruitment as an alum volunteer and my close friend used to be the Greek Advisor there...anyway some chapters may release you for your class year but if you have good grades and an open mind you will find a home in of the great chapters at Cornell. The sororites there have such fantasic houses.

Cornell should have some sort of information session for their formal recruitment--or at least hand out books that have all of the chapters listed with their minimum GPAs. If they've already had info. sessions for formal recruitment and you missed them--you should talk to Panhellenic (Panhel)...whatever you call it there...while some sororities have nationals set their minimum GPA, some do not and it is school dependent. If you are going through formal recruitment you will have a "recruitment counselor" who would be able to answer all of those type of specific question for you (or at least Panhel could). I suggest talking to them, as it sounds like there are not any Cornell students on GC right now (or, at least none that are coming out of the woodwork to talk), and most of us cannot answer specifics for you entirely.
Good luck with recruitment!

In case you don't already know, I found on the Fraternity & Sorority Life page for Cornell that the Panhellenic info session is January 19 in Kennedy Auditorium. Questions about grades, etc will hopefully be answered there. Good luck!

Sophomores are great

I would say about 10%-20% of girls rushing are sophomores, often transfer students or girls who decided not to rush the previous year. Being a sophomore is not at all a problem, and very few houses will hold your class against you. A few chapters will generally not accept juniors, although there are always exceptions. In particular, I'm sure AXD will be interested in taking junior members.

As far as I know, GPA cutoffs typically vary from house to house. Usually it's around a 2.5, sometimes as low as a 2.0. I know my house will even initiate you if you fall below the cutoff with approval from our national organization. Also, I think houses don't receive information on your GPA until after you've begun pledging.

To register for rush, there is an online registration at the DOS website.

Numbers UP for Cornell recruitment!

Numbers are up for registration for fraternity and sorority recruitment, according to the Daily Sun:

http://cornelldailysun.com/articles/10417

About 580 men and about the same number of women are reported as signing up.

Sounds like the interest is there!

Are grades really an issue at a school like Cornell? I figured that since A) It's very difficult to get into and B) It's unbelievably expensive, everyone's GPA would be "up there"
