Fun Junior Circle Events

Ladies,

Do you have any good ideas for events for Junior Circle aged alumnae? What does your chapter do, if you're an alum?

Thanks!

The Junior Circle associated with the Alumnae Club I am in is just getting started but they have already done some fun things. Off the top of my head, they've had a shopping trip to an outlet mall, an event at a comedy club and a potluck for Thanksgiving (and they just started up in September!).

Dee

ETA: They had a night too where they did a philanthropy project for a women's shelter and went to a haunted house.

I am a part of two local JCs, Los Angeles and Orange County, and we have found a variety of events that have been well attended. First, when the Alpha Gam was on Survivor we met and ALWAYS had a great response. We have tried this watching Sex and the City also. Our biggest turn out has been doing pottery painting at Color Me Mine. We have had two of those events and had a BLAST!

When I was living in Indianapolis we had great turn outs all the time. We did a lot of things with signifigant others, although I never had one there. There is a minor league baseball team there and we went to those games. They were cheap and you were able to bring a picnic and sit in the outfield.

Another fun one is for summer events - outside concerts. We are lucky to have the Hollywood Bowl but local towns usually have one and you can bring a picnic.

I know that within my alumnae chapter, many of us Junior Circle members hold offices within the chapter, some of us hold advisor positions, and some of us do both...so going to the alum events and some collegiate events in addition to separate JC ones can be tough. I went through burn out and went MIA for a while.

But -- even though this sounds bad, I've always enjoyed dinner and movie nights and karaoke with my JC sisters. My favorite events were always the "Pau Hana" after-work happy hours. It feels so good to be able to unwind over a few cocktails and appetizers with your sisters after a long day at work.

A Hawaii alum/JC member that shall remain nameless once suggested an informal "Rite of Passage" ceremony. As we all know, the max cut off age to be a Junior Circle member is 35 -- technically 35, but no one really pays attention anymore. It sounds mean, albeit funny, but I think it's a nice gesture to create a ceremony at one of these happy hours to celebrate (?) this sister's journey out of JC.

As part of the LA and OC Junior Circles, I found that we also got a great response from evenings out at places like "Howl at the Moon" (a piano bar) and game nights. We also did High Tea once, which got a fantastic turnout, but was a little tough to plan for that big a group.

I love the idea of doing an outlet shopping trip! I'm going to suggest that at our next JC meeting. Speaking of which, its this Sunday at my place and a LOT of women have RSVPed. This means I have to scrub down my apartment--but I don't mind!

OTW.. I'm picturing a cane painted red, buff and green and decorated with squirrels and roses for outgoing JC members.. LOL.

Maria and Wendi: They did the outlet mall in November and got some Christmas shopping done!
