Seeking out the sages of GC
I posted already in the 'Who's rushing in Spring' thread...but anyway, I'm approaching Rush Week at the University of Richmond, and I'm starting to get a little nervous.
Any tips / words of wisdom? Things that helped you out during your rush, or advice you remember as being really insightful?
(and sorry if this was already a recent topic)

Re: Seeking out the sages of GC
If you have social anxiety you could try taking 10mg of valium every other day during rush . . . it has a long half life.
Other than that. Relax and be affable.

Word of Wisdom
Ignore James for the most part!
But do relax and have fun! GC is a great way to learn tips on going through recruitment. Just remember every pmn has just about the same thoughts as you.

A little advice
1. Keep an open mind about all the groups. You may find that one you thought you wouldn't like really surprises you.
2. ASK QUESTIONS! It makes you seem interested.
3. Be yourself!
4. HAVE FUN!
Best of luck to you! Can you tell us what groups are on your campus??

I'd suggest digging through the rush thread for tips that have been put out by collegians and alumnae. There are tips for pretty much every sort of situation out there (southern, west coast, small school, competitive systems, etc.) Since U of R is a private school with a large Greek population, you may want to check suggestions from women who went to similar schools. Good luck!

I think that you should check out the other threads in the Rush forum. They are chock full of tips.

one thing that helped me
when i rushed.....at one house i was paired with a sorority member who must have been a rusher for the first time and was terribly shy. she was smiling a lot, but hardly talked. i was getting bored and starting to feel uncomfortable so i started talking to her, asking her questions like i was the member and she the rushee. i asked her major, hometown, etc. and then started in on movies she might have recently seen, books read, what her favorite class had been so far, etc. it was just survival at the time, but she relaxed so much and seemed to have a good time that i decided to try it again if the occasion merited it. it must have worked, because i was invited back to all but one house(and i would have dropped that house anyway-was just mad that i didn't get the chance!)
so my advise would be to be prepared to take control of the conversation . have some prepared topics in mind in case you get paired with someone who is not a brillant conversationalist. it probably is not that they do not like you, but that they are shy and unsure of themselves. remember people like to talk about themselves-its the topic they know the most about! best of luck. keep an open mind and have fun! lisa

Keep an open mind!!! I think that is the biggest thing about rush, but also just try to relax and have fun. You can only gain from going through rush and being in a sorority, you have nothing to lose.

have to agree
I have to agree with the above response. You HAVE to ask questions. They are your friend. I learned that when I was an interest. If you don't ask, you will not know anything.
Have fun with the sisters. Be professional but laid back...it's possible.
Other than that All the other posters gave great advice
