Thumbs up Uga the bulldog

In honor of the Dawgs playing in the SEC Championship for the second year in a row figured I would start a thread about the beloved mascot.

Sports illustrated named Uga the countries #1 college mascot.

The University of Georgia is the only major college that actually buries its mascots within the confines of the stadium. Ugas I, II, III, IV and V are buried in marble vaults near the main gate in the embankment of the South stands. Epitaphs to the dogs are inscribed in bronze, and before each home game, flowers are placed on their graves. The memorial plot attracts hundreds of fans and visitors each year.

The are many more facts about Uga at this site. Whics has facts about all the Uga's and links to other Uga sites.

Go Dawgs

........

UGA is so super cute! ALthough he try to bite me, but it was b/c someone from behind scared him. He was nice was to me afterwards!
Although I do feel really bad for him. They took out his sweat glands, so he's always on ice b/c he gets so hot. I remember at a UK vs UGA game it was so cold outside and UGA was on ice b/c he was hot. Poor thing! Other than that, he gets treated like gold.
We need to start bringing Blue, our wildcat, to the games. Now, that would be fun!

DISCLAIMER: NOT TRYING TO START ISHT

But, is it true that all bulldogs have to be artificially inseminated and then delivered via C-section because of the size of their heads and how it's inproportional to the rest of their bodies?

I'm just saying, that if the only reason that an animal is in existence is because of modern science, then that's a case of natural selection right there

Seeing bulldogs have been around before artificial insemination I doubt thats the case. Some c-sections might happen but if it was that hard to get a bulldog baby it would have died out along time ago when they were first created and didn't have c-sections.

I've never heard that bulldogs have to be artificially inseminated. I think people may do that to try to increase a litter, though.

Just like with humans, there are some births that have to be done C-Section for the health of the mom and babies. From what I have heard from friends, it is much more the exception to the rule to have a C-Section.

361 times I have watched Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil just to see Uga saunter down the street

I own an English Bulldog who proudly wears Orange & Blue!

Yes, bullies are often artificially inseminated AND give birth by cesarian...all contributing to the high price of puppies.

Why artificially inseminated? Well, it's risky to have a 50-80 pound male mate with the female. If you've paid over $1000 for the female (I hate using the word 'bitch' even in this case), you don't want to risk have her hips broken during mating.

The pups are born by cesarian because often, their heads are too big to get through the birth canal.

Here's Nigel's website: http://nigelthebully.tripod.com

BTW, on the Nat'l Geographic channel, they have this great series called "Dogs With Jobs." They've done segments on UGA, on the Yale mascot, and on a bulldog who is a corporal in the Marines.

Nothing wrong with Bulldogs being worth more than other dogs.

Once again go Dawgs!
