Talking Charity Walk

My chapter is thinking about organizing a charity walk to benefit our local animal shelter. Has anyone organized a charity walk before and how did you do it? i.e. how many people did you plan on attending? how did you raise the upfront money if you didn't have it already (we are a new chapter and don't have a cent to our names yet!) I would appreciate any information you can give me!

Never done that either, animal shelters have a special place (especially the NO KILL ones) in my heart! Wanted to wish you luck and say Bless you!

BSPNuEpsilon......Welcome to GreekChat! I hope you enjoy our board.

I have some experience with charity walks. If you keep it simple, overhead costs are nearly zero. If you really need cash to begin, think about requiring a registration fee for individuals and/or teams. Consider asking local businesses to donate water, oranges, cookies, etc. For their donations, you could place signs with their logos at the start or finish line.

Your cause is a very worthwhile one, so be sure to let everyone in your community know where the money is going. When targeting potential walkers, think about who is especially interested in raising money for orphaned animals.

Best wishes for successful event!

Erica
