Protesting in Florida
Hello all,
I would first like to let you all know that the marble floors in the Florida State Capital are really not made for sleeping
I just returned from the Capitol where myself and my fellow colleagues marched and sat for 22 hours in silent protest. Without getting all worked up over the details of the protest I would just like to say that the ladies of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. set a fine example for the other organizations on campus who were "too busy" to join in the struggle. Many of the organizations marched but only the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha spent the night. The ladies offered their assistance in organizing and preparing the food donated to us by various businesses (including McDonald's and Albertson's-please remember to patronize these businesses). I would just like to say that I was very proud of Alpha Kappa Alpha for their turn-out and unsolicited service. Such acts only strengthen my resolve to persue membership into this organization.

That sounds like something I would participate in!
I'm really glad you ladies had the guts to demonstrate. Folks love to talk, but few have the audacity to take action.
Good job!

Besides the fact from personally loving activism.
I love it when African-Americans show their concern and strength with any issue. Way to go mizzkes and to the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha for taking a stand!
Our grandparents and greatgrandparents gave up a lot for us to vote and voice our concern. I'm glad to see this same determination lives in my peers.
And regardless of the outcome, your efforts will not be in vain!

mizzkes I bet that was a great learning experience and something you will remember forever, because after all this entire election scandal will be remembered forever!!!
Great work, keep fighting for what our ancestors died for. I have not been to any protest but I have volunteered my time to send out letters about this whole mess - makes me so upset I feel like I am gonna lose my mind :-(
The worst about this all is that the next president going in is now going to have much opposition no matter who it is. And the process of voting is going to be largely affected by this, either our people are going to be more into it and make sure they vote next time, or we will be discouraged and think the process does not work, and I think we(the pro vote and voter registration go getters) are going to be even more stressed out trying to get people involved.

For Generation "X", it was the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger. Maybe this will be one of those defining moments in the lives of the Generation "Y" era.
Soror LadyAKA, I agree with you:

I wanted to thank everyone for your nice sentiments. The most beautiful part of the experince for me was this:
We have a high school as most colleges do, which bears our school name and mascot. It is located just off of our cmpus. In attendance at this school are pre-school aged children. As we began our march from the steps of our auditorium, all of the teachers brought the small children out to the sidewalk. I still remember their faces as they looked at us in awe. They were waving and smiling. As we passed the school's yard, children outside at PE put their balls down and ran up to the fence to get a closer look at us. I will never forget the way that made me feel. You could just see the admiration in their faces. It was as if they were saying "Wow, I am going to be just like them when I grow up". And that brought tears to my eyes. Just the sight of those small children looking up to me, made me know in my heart that I was doing the right thing. And as was mentioned,I felt like I had alongside me the spirit of all of our ancestors who had participated in similar protests in order the pave the way for us.
I just wanted to share that with you all. Thanks again for your kind words.
