special recognition for donations?

Does Phi Mu have some sort of program to recognize sisters who begin donating to the foundation in the first few years after their graduation? I know some other groups (DDD, Alpha Phi) have this -- through a recognition pin or some such.

Do we?

There's the Sir Fidel circle where you donate a one time gift of $15 and you receive a dangle.

Ha, that made me laugh. We all like dangles.

BTW, it is $40 to join the Sir Fidel Circle, but it is suggested to make your gifts in increments of $15. Of course 3x15=45, not 40, but whatever.

If I am correct isn't Sir Fidel Circle only for collegians? The Sir Fidel Circle is designed to get actives in the habit/spirit of giving to the foundation and the $40 is a small enough mark that most can acheive it (and it helps to have an immediate reward...i.e. dangle) I believe the first alumnae level of donations that us recognized is over $200. The smallest amount they recognize is located in the latest Aglaia. The $200 (or whatever) is a cumulative amount as well.

Phi Mu Foundation has a number of recognition levels.
For Collegiate women, Sir Fidel Circle recognizes a 15.00 per year gift with a dangle (each year) when they donate as a collegain.

Membership in the Foundation is 40.00- in your whole lifetime. Then there area varying recognition levels- each comes with it's own reward.
I've been a donor to Foundation for years. Over your lifetime, you can give a LOT, just by giving a little each time. Believe me, if you can afford 5.00 every time you get a mailing, you will be doing more than 90% of our membership. Most women never give...and the funds you gift to foundation are used for Educational initiatives, Scholarship, Leadership and Philanthropy. I would encourage you to consider making Phi Mu Foundation one of your primary Philanthropies throughout your lifetime- you'll be helping sisters in ways you cannot begin to imagine!

that's really sweet -- what a great way to put it all in perspective!

The biggest incentive for me would be, I think, knowing how it benefits sisters individually. Of course I love the idea of helping Phi Mu as a national organization, but I especially love the idea of helping a specific sister. Even if I don't know her.

Well, I think it's a bigger picture than helping one individual, but let me give you a couple of examples of how your donations work, and maybe that will expand the vision a little.

Scholarship: Each year Foundation gives over 90k in scholarship funds to women in undergraduate and graduate programs. Some of these women would not be able to pursue their educations without those funds.
Loans are available to alumnae who are returning to school and need assistance for more than tuition- maybe they need a laptop computer and don't have the funds- they may be eligible for 1500.00 in low interest loans.

Leadership: Some of the funds I have given over the years have allowed my own chapter of initiation to hold a leadership weekend in the late summer- I am convinced that had I not contributed, my chapter would have closed years ago.
National Leadership conference allows chapters to share ideas, and support each other in ways you cannot imagine.

Philanthropy: Giving to Foundation helps us develop many different types of philanthropic initiatives- it's not all about CMN, even though it may seem like it sometimes. We even give to each other- there is the Heart and Hand fund that gives to Phi Mu's who have suffered a loss in a natural disaster- floods, tornado's, hurricanes, earthquakes- even September 11th. If they write in to Foundation telling them about the loss they have suffered, funds are available via your donations to give them a hand when they need it most.
I could go on and on, but primarily I wish more sisters understood the potential we could collectively represent. Let's do the math.
If 1000 sisters that do not currently give any money gave just 5.00 this year to Foundation, it could give a chapter with leadership needs a chance to survive. If 10,000 sisters did that (and believe me, they are out there- we have many THOUSANDS that have never given to Foundation) imagine what the potential would be to enhance our members lives! And if half of that 10,000 group gave 50.00 instead of 5.00...well you can see what a difference it makes- to individuals, chapters and the organization as a whole. Each one does what she can...and truly the whole becomes bigger than the sum of it's parts.

I'm going to throw a challenge out here, because I'd like to set an example of how much I believe in our collective strength. Let's see if anyone takes me up on it.
I'll put 1,000.00 of my own funds on the table. I'll match every 5.00 donation made to Phi Mu Foundation by a member who has never contributed before up to the 1,000.00 limit. Here is how it will work.
E-mail me on this chat and tell me you are sending in 5.00 (or more- you can give more and then the 1000.00 is matched sooner). Send your 5.00 donation to Phi Mu Foundation, 3558 Habersham at Northlake, Tucker Ga 30084 and in the memo section of your check write " Greek chat challenge". I'll let the office know that they should e-mail me when the donation comes in, and I will then match that 5.00 immediately. I will have the Business manager of Foundation e-mail you when I match your funds.
If this works well, I may consider extending it... but let's see if anyone is paying attention.

Wow! What a great and generous challenge! And what an amazing Phi Mu -- I never knew half of what our money does for our organization.

I'm so glad you joined Greek Chat!

Exclamation WOW

Helllooooo ladies... thank you phimuantique for your posting. I actually just read about Sir Fidel Circle and was going to propose to my chapter that we all try to send in a donation over the course over the year. I know a lot of the girls would definetely enjoy recieving a dangle (a physical reward...almost encouragement). I was also curious about something you mentioned about chapters who perhaps needed help in leadership.

I am REALLY looking for a way to build chapter unity and to create stronger bonds with my sisters. I feel like we all know that we have each other for support but I would love to be able to have a professional "team builder" spend an afternoon with us. I know they can run into hundreds of dollars, but I was just curious if I could approach nationals or my alumni association to see if they would help sponsor this.

Well I guess thats all, I'm sorry I ramble... I just have trouble finding the right people to help me out. I think my chapter is wonderful but we just need like that one UMPH to help us reach our potential!!

The best thing to do is to do your homework and come to the Foundation with an idea in mind in writing, preferable in the form of a proposal they can really consider.
It should include, but not be limited to: cost, location and agenda complete with a theme. Remember that your ideas need to revolve around the following themes: Leadership, scholarship, philanthropy and Education. If you just want a membership workshop, Foundation cannot help you. If it is something they can fund to make your chapter stronger in one of the four areas I listed, I'm sure they will consider it.
Also remember that there are chapters that are in significant need of development in these areas, and there is sure to be some level of priority to these requests. Just becaue they may not be able to help you this year does not mean that will be the case every year. Foundation has limited resources, and until each of us makes a committment to change that by our own personal contribution (remember- any contribution is a good thing, no matter how small) they need to take these requests in the priority of who needs what most- and consider the available places they can find funds. Don't get discouraged. Foundation is run by and supported by SISTERS...no one else. If they can help, they will- sisters are like that.

Make sure that you work through your area officers when putting this together. They can help and guide you better than anyone in this process. If you do not know who they are, pm me and I will let you know your area director and give you the referral.

In the meantime, bring back this message to your chapter- and help me max out the matching funds I have offered. Collegiate or alumnae, does not matter- I will match any dollar given by a sister who has not given before up to 1,000.00. Who knows? It may be just the funds needed to fulfill your request.

Did anyone take PhiMuAntique up on this?

I sent in a check for $30... hey, it's not much, but it's what I could afford, and better yet -- now it's doubled!

As far as I know, you are the only person who has done anything (which is kind of sad, but the offer still stands).

I'll have the office match your gift today and send you a confirmation. If you wrote Greek Chat challenge on the check, you should get an acknowlegement anyway.
Thanks so much, what a faithful sister!

WOW!!

phimuantique...you are AWESOME!!

It is so nice to know that there are sisters out there who care so much for the life of our fraternity.

I believe strongly in our Foundation, and while I have never thought of it in the way you posted, I do now!

I plan to send my 5.00 very soon. I am in the process of buying a car which is draining ALLLL my funds, as it looks I might have to get a second part time job,
but to me 5.00 is just a small amount, instead of getting a quick lunch in the union i can make lunch that day

Thank you PhiMuAntique for putting this subject into prospective for me. You truly are a wonderful asset to our organization.

I hope everyone else participates in this challange

LIOB

When you send in your check, please make sure you let the office know it is from the Greek Chat challenge. Also give them your e-mail address so that they can let you know I matched the funds.

Thanks so much for your contribution! Every gift is an investment in our sisterhood.
