regrets?

So, I'm not sure about school, which makes me unsure of recruitment. It's looking like I might not be able to afford school and might have to stay home and go to a local school. This means no recruitment. Any thoughts?

well, that is something that you really need to consider. i know that i have a ton of loans that i am sure i will be paying back until i am 70!! it is definately not fun, but it was a choice that i made. if you do end up staying closer to home, perhaps you can still go through recruitment. we had a commuter in my chapter and it was a great way for her to feel like she actually belonged at the school. i also maintained a job (not a work-study one) throughout college so that i could afford to pay dues and have spending money. good luck with your decision!

If you are stuch staying home and going to a local school, many local schools have greek systems! I should know, being part of one! It's diffrent from being at an away school, but you still get the most important thing: sisterhood. And yes, I am at a commuter school for the same reason: money.

If you are waiting for loans, get in touch with whoever is the head honcho and see what your status is. I know these things can take forEVER to get through, so don't panic just yet.

As Buttonz said even if you are at a smaller school they will probably still have a Greek system if it's a 4 year college.

I'm pretty sure there aren't ANY greek groups on campus, but there is no reason that I can't start one, should I end up going there and finding more interested parties!

Perhaps you could get an ROTC scholarship? I did not have one when I was in - but did get a monthly stipend my junior and senior years. Women did not start getting ROTC scholarships until they were "allowed" in the coickpit and missile silos, by then I had graduated. Realize the military is not for everyone but I loved being in the military and miss it now that I am retired. I went in initially because my dad - a Navy man - made me. I hated it at first but am so glad now that I stuck with it. I had a great 22 year career, got to travel, had outstanding leadership opportunities, met a lot of great people, and have a decent retirement income now.

Just a thought....

Keep that good attitude, bgsarah!! When I came to grad school, I was still interested in Greek Life. There weren't any GLOs on campus that would pledge a grad student, so I started my own chapter. We're going strong, and I found the sisterhood I always wanted.

Make your college experience everything you hoped it could be. Forget limitations!

I don't know if you have any loans, but do not be afraid of them. People pay $20,000 for a car, and your education will outlast any piece of metal! If you really don't want that kind of debt, check out what your local school has to offer. You are so bright & outgoing, I can see that you would be a terrific person to start your own GLO! Keep us updated. My fingers are crossed for you.

There's lots of scholarships around. (including many offered by nat'l sororities) I don't know you're school's financial situation but many schools will give good amounts of fin. aid. (i get 1/2 my tuition from the school, thank god!) look on things like fastweb.com and other scholarship search sites you can find stuff. my friend from HS paid for four years at UW-Madison w/ that kind of money. it is possible

Like everyone else said - loans are not the devil. (at least until you have to pay them back)

I really hope you get to go - I think you'd be an asset to any GLO!

I did actually get more than 1/2 my tuition from the school, but I can't get any more loans! That's the whole problem. We've gotten denied for every loan we've tried for and there is just no other way to come p with the money, and I have less than a week left!

But, I'm going to the commuter school here today to apply and everything, so we'll see what happens!

I thought Stafford Loans were guaranteed to any student regardless of income, unless they were had atrocious credit or were in default of an existing student loan. Those are the kind where you have to pay interest while you're in school, but isn't it worth it to stay at your college?

Things went really well at the new school. I'm happy.
I got so much support and advise from the faculty here, it really made me wonder how much the other school values their students. I NEVER got any of this from them.
