Gangs Of New York

Anyone seen it yet?

I thought it was GREAT. I don't think it was one of the best I've ever seen, but it was still one of the best of the year. Daniel Day-Lewis was brilliant in it, Leo was pretty good, and Cameron Diaz was hot as usual.

Though some of it was gratuitous, it did a good job of laying out the grim circumstances of the setting and situations of the times.

I would think twice about seeing it though if you are easy squimished.

Can you tell me a little more without giving away too much? I'm pretty squeamish but don't mind some blood and guts (that sounds peculiar, I know...) I had been wanting to see it; our newspaper only gave it a so-so review, but I don't usually agree with them. I saw Catch Me If You Can - it was fun, not great art, but an enjoyable movie.

i thought the movie was wonderful! i was definately done in the style that i ADORE in a film
yes, i agree....Daniel Day-Lewis blew me away! Leo was a great actor to cast, but Cameron Diaz? She's attractive, yes, but I think someone like say....claire danes...or even kate winslet would have been a better choice.
it wasn't ALL THAT bloody and gory...it could have been ALOT worse, but if you're not into seeing men walking through streets with puddles of blood upto thier ankles then...well, i wouldn't suggest seeing it.

the music was wonderful though
i give it a THUMBS WAY UP!

Angry I saw Half....

of the movie today and the FILM BROKE!! They said it would be over an hour until they could get it fixed, so they gave us passes to come back free anytime and see the rest!! Boy was I peeved - the part that I did see, I enjoyed. I must be really naive, but I NO IDEA that people lived in the sort of conditions portrayed in the movie. It's grim... (but the movie is excellent so far)

I just got the DVD. Everyone I've shown it to has loved it. The special features are also pretty sweet.

I thought this movie was awful. It was long and drawn out. Leo is a terrible actor and should never have been cast as an Irish man. Anyhoo, I love Daniel Day Lewis, and I thought he was the best part of the movie.

The only thing I enjoyed about this movie was the art direction, costumes, and I did think the battle scenes were well coreographed (sp?).

I just thought it was really boring and slow.

I saw the movie in January or February. It is not Scorsese's best work, but it was good. I have to see it again for a final verdict.

People really lived that way in NY and many cities around the world well into the 20th Century. There was terrible poverty and high infant mortality with a life expectancy of forty something.
