Angry Earthlink

I recently started using this as my internet service provider, and now I'm having issues with it. It comes with this free popup-blocking software called "Popup Scrubber 2". Well apparently it's some sort of spyware and Earthlink is able to control your computer with it somehow. See this article: http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20030206.html

I'm freaked out now b/c I tried to do a search on my computer for this program, and it doesn't show up anywhere. It is blocking GOOD popups, like from places where I have to enter data (i.e. message boards, e-mail, etc.).

Even more scary, I went to google.com and typed in "popup scrubber 2" to try and find some info, and the popup thing blocked the search results!!! I know there's something fishy about that, because when I searched on google for anything else, it turned out fine.

Has anyone else been having trouble with Earthlink, or another ISP/popup blocker program?

I have had Earthlink for about 7 or 8 years and love it. It sounds like you are using Total Access. I DO NOT USE OR RECOMMEND USING TOTAL ACCESS SOFTWARE. I do use Earthlink's pop-up blocker but have it set so that on websites where I want popups I get them and the rest of the time I hit control and it allows the new pages to popup. I recommend using Outlook and IE with Earthlink (or Outlook Express if you don't have Outlook). The Earthlink software people can walk you through removing Total Access and using a PPP connection or DSL without Total Access.
