More reasons why TX rocks

- TX has one of the most recognizable flags in all of the nation - Lonestar! Anyone even have a remote idea of what the Nebraska flag looks like, who isn't from Nebraska?
- Largest international metropolitan area in the nation - El Paso, TX and Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico
- The name Texas comes from the Spanish word "Tejas" which is an interpretation of the Hasinai Indian word meaning "friendly"; Yes, people from TX are damn friendly.

Notable Texans:
- Mary Kay Ash
- Carol Burnett
- George Bush
- George W. Bush
- Joan Crawford
- Walter Cronkite
- Buddy Holly
- Howard Hughes
- Lyndon Baines Johnson
- Janis Joplin
- Jayne Mansfield
- Roy Orbison
- Dan Rather
- Gene Roddenberry
- Nolan Ryan
- Sissy Spacek

I'm sure there are tons of others that I don't personally recall, but if we named all the notable Texans, well, you'd be drowning with the sheer number.

I'm originally from El Paso, TX, and I'm damn proud, and as they saying goes, "Don't mess with Texas."

George 41 and George 43 aren't native Texans; they're adopted.

Other native Texans:

Larry Hagman (his mom, Mary Martin, also is a native Texan)
Rip Torn (cousin to Sissy Spacek)
Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz

Another oops on my part

Sorry, I didn't realize I had started a new post. Blame it on my rarity of posting on GC. Apologies again.

Gotta love it!! Wish I could be in SA to see all the craziness....

Well, if I got in the car right now, I could be there by about 3:30 or 4 a.m. They ought to still be partying by then

Just random question.. how could they be the "world champions" if they only played against teams in the U.S. to win the championship?

wouldn't that make them the U.S. champions? I'm confused!

Is this one of those "Miss Universe" things.. being that only women from the planet Earth compete, yet they get a "Miss Universe" title?

Downtown San Antonio was CRAZY last night!!! Everyone was on the streets or in cars (like us) honking until the wee hours. It was great. The excitement was there. I'm at work now feeling the pain (i had to be at work @6am) but it was sooo worth it. Victory is Sweet!!

I LOVE TEXAS!!!

Don't forget that the NBA does have two franchises in Canada and quite a few players hail from other countries as well, so it is appropriate to call 'em 'world champions'

Not really, soccer has the Champions League which involve pretty much the entire European continent plus Turkey and Israel. The winner never call themselve world champion (though it is pretty much accepted that the winner are usually consider the best club, though Boca Junior will usually say otherwise). Same with UEFA Cup, granted EUFA cup is second fiddle to the Champions Leauge and Inter-Toto tournemnt to UEFA cup.

Also there is the Super 12 Rugby LEague involving 3 different countries with 4 teams from each country (South AFrica, New Zealand and Australia).

Unfortunately, The NBA only has one franchise in Canada now(Toronto Rapters). Vancouver was moved to Memphis.
