NARC
LadyAKA had some comments about NARC up in my hometown. I was wondering how it went and would love some feedback from sorors who attended. I was at NARC in '98 (when that was my Region) in DC and found it slightly lackluster. I've relocated to the Mid-Atlantic now and am considering attending my own Regionals at the end of this month (anyone else heading to Fayetteville, NC that weekend?)
Sorors, since my first Sorority function in '98, I've heard various and somewhat discouraging comments about Clusters, Regionals and Boules meeting up to expectations (both while I was in attendance, and second-hand). Any thoughts about this?
Feel free to e-mail comments to me if they seems too disparaging--this is NOT meant to air what some may consider dirty laundry, or to exclude parties from this convo intentionally (had to throw in a disclaimer!)
Sisterly,
APR

Hey Soror APRussell1908 in trying to be as discreet as possible. I will say that yes, I was in attendance at NARC 2000, and mind you New York is my place of residence, I, however, stood at the hotel so I could get the full effect. I must say that all the functions, the events and the workshops were enlightening as usual. I learn something every time But outside of those events how can sorors be so rude. I was in total disgust at the Awards Gala. My cluster (3) did something different and it was the worst. How you gonna have Golden sorors on line or in the back of the line waiting for food. And some sorors are just rude, with no dang manners at all. Ladies were cussing when they could not get into the party or the step show and some were dressed so scandalous (we can all dress seductive, but dang - while at regional with older sorors around, come on) ... where is that AKA Grace? Oh and some of the looks/stares were quiet scary it felt like the whole hotel was PMS'ing.
I asked yall to pray for me at this regional but maybe the lord did not hear, because when I put my head down to pray..the Soror in my face did not go away. There is much more to be said, but I will cool it for now. And I just found out that my sister is trying to go to BOULE so that means I am going to try and make it to Dallas with her and thus I may have to go through this crap again, but I am gonna be more prepared....don't ask how cause I don't know.
Oh, and last year in Philly I had the bomb time....this year it was just all right.

Hey Sorors!
I am also interested in how NARC went, since I will be attending my first Regional Conference on April 6-9 here in St. Louis. I've heard nothing but positive feedback regarding the Regional conference, but I would also like to hear the "real deal" too. Feel free to e-mail me whenever you get a chance.
Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you.

LadyAKA, I'm soooo sorry our prayers were not loud enough. Soror, you really had me laughing. But seriously, I do know what you are talking about. Sometimes sorors let their altitude affect there attitude a bit too much, if you know what I'm trying to say. Fortunately, I have enjoyed the regional and cluster conferences I have attended. I especially enjoyed regional '95 in Atlanta. I wish I was going again this year.

Soror LadyAKA,
You have said a mouthfull. NARC was wonderful! Not only that, the weather in NYC was just right. Keep in mind that just a week or so before NARC there were snow flurries in the city. Anyway, I had a ball to say the least! My favorite workshop was called:Give Me That Old AKA Spirit!! Soror LadyAKA, did you attend this one? Well, I'm sure Sorors Nay Nay and APRussell1908 will enjoy their Regional. I know NARC was exceptional!!! Have a wonderful Wednesday Sorors!!!

Sorors I am always one for agreeing to disagree. Let me reiterate I enjoyed the conference part of Regionals, I always learn alot and I take notes to bring back to chapter, but outside of some of those events sorors just 'WILE (wild) OUT'.
First some of the areas we frequented were way to small. Like in the vendor area (I am used to this - small vendor areas) but for some reason Sorors whether they were from New York or not, just had that NEW YORK ATTITUDE. And all that attended cannot tell me that the refreshments at the end of the Awards Gala was not a disaster! Like I always say I love my sorors but damn New York was a bit out of hand. This was my
cluster and I worked at regional and I got to see a lot behind the scenes and it wasn't pretty. I must say that I was sick during regional and this might have contributed.
The weather might I add was beautiful and when I am some of my sorors stepped outside to do lunch I felt a warm glow all around the city, but back inside the hotel, I was plan ole disgusted. That's it I will leave it at that. Maybe if I would have hooked up with you Soror Supermodel1908 I would have had a better time - sorry we missed eachother! I look forward to it next year

I have to agree with you Soror LadyAKA. The hotel situation was out of control at times. On Sunday, I had a bit of a problem catching an elevator down from the 10th floor. The hotel was somewhat at fault because they had some of the elevators set up to pass by certain floors!! I couldn't believe it! I ended up taking my luggage down the escalators. It took a bit of bruit strength, but I did it. The NA Regional Director, Soror C. Edith Booker, stated that this year, there would be no sit down meal at the awards gala. I was prepared to handle dinner on my own. However, I did see Sorors make a mad dash for the refreshments though. The room for the vendors was small in some areas. Example: The chapter display area was cramped. I wish the displays could have been in another room all together. Nevertheless, I'm glad I was "in the place to be" so to speak. I'm definately looking forward to Atlantic City.

Soror Lady AKA i went to the regionals in 95 at the Grand Hyatt in New York and it was wonderful. However i was wet behind the ears and me and my Sorors tried to stay close together so as to not get run over I had some bad experience there however like seeing Sorors true colors and realizing that everyone is not Sisterly. But i imagine you saw alot more working behind the scenes. In all i had a great time but that was mostly because i went shopping and i enjoyed the meetings and seeing Older Sorors. I love Older Sorors they remind me of the true AKA spirit, Class, Grace and Patience. They are mature and i just enjoy seeing them handle the business. Hopefully Boule will be a better experience for you and your Sister.

Soror supermodel1908 you just brought me back to that love I have for AKA. I just realized that every time is not always a good time, but I was happy to be in the place. I forget that sistas are trying to get where I am.... thanks for bringing me back to my senses.
And Soror Pink Bunny, it is the older sorors that I admire most, don't get me wrong there are young sorors doing their thing (this includes us all) but older sorors are pass all the immaturity and they are there just to have fun and to perpetuate our sorority. I am feeling much better now, I think BOULE will be a success. Thanks sorors and sisterfriends that have dropped me a line/e-mail on this topic. Now that is what sisterhood is about!
