UNC DKE endows $1,000,000 professorship

According to the UNC alumni magazine, DKE has raised over $666,000 - matched by the state of NC with $334,000 - to endow the "DKE Distinguished Professorship." The fund raising was started by an alumnus in 2000 with a $100,000 gift.

The Phi Delts at UNC are also close to endowing a similar chair, and the Tri-Delts started raising fund this summer for their chair.

Can I please ask again that at least somewhere close to the top of a post that we spell out the name of the university?

It is awesome.

And, to be fair, most people do think of North Carolina and would generally be correct -- but some don't. It depends on where you live.

Most Journalism schools say to spell out the name the first time and then use the initials after that if you want.

OSU means Ohio State, Oklahoma State or Oregon State, depending on where you live and what you're used to.

Another instance:

My wife and I graduated from O.U.
Our son is a senior at O.U.
Our daughter graduated from O.U. after spending two years at U.N.C.

Translated:

See?

This is what Greek Life should be about, small groups of students living together by choice and furthering their education and the University, good for the jolly good fellows of DKE at UNC.

ps UT can stand of THE UNIVERISTY OF TEXAS or THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESEE, but we all know that UT means TEXAS!

and then there's

U of Tulsa; U of Toledo; three state U's that have the state name
first...Indiana, West Virginia and Ohio....there is no U of Indiana;
course there's Indiana U of Pa and California State of Pa, and
Monmouths and Loyolas, and St Johns and St Marys and various
Washingtons and, er, where was I?
Oh yes, Kansas is KU never UK; Oklahoma is OU never U of O;
Illinois is U of I never UI or IU, but, guys, in the final analysis,
Slippery Rock is Slippery Rock.
Regards from the slipping away old greek.....E

See?
You're really being a stickler on this. Everyone's gotta pick their battles I guess.

Anyway, I'm amazed that these chapters can tap into that much money. Does the University somehow help?
