Why G Phi G?

Just to ask Groovers from all around what made you "go against the grain" mind you. What made you say "damn I gotta be a Groove!!" over being a in a BGLO.

I myself personally loved the brotherhood that I saw with the brothers from all walks of life and socio-economic backgrounds. I saw an oppourtunity to be in an organization where ingenuity was/ is golden and there is a greater challenge and resposibility at the undergraduate levels.

I also didn't agree withb the term "Black Greek" because it didn't fit well with me or anyone black person period. Until I see a Black Chinese (Tiger doesn't count) or a Black Anglo, the term Black Greek just is not something I wanted to be labeled with for the rest of my days.

Lastly the foundation and the principles on which the organization was founded truly fit what I am about. I Groove everyday, I Fellowship often and am all about business. I don't Que, Alpha, Sigma, or kappa ever because ...."it's not natural"

Always brought to the light in Black and White,
My torch raised ever so high and my G's in my side;
I can Wade in the Water to the beat of Jerry B.
Just as long as I can be as Swank as I want to be;
Cool, Suave and Debonair Men about Town,
for all of the men of Groove Phi can throw down;
So if you try to step you better come legit,
for if you don't then we just have to bust out "THE ULTIMATE"

The reason i wanted to pledge groove was and is still that they are approachable. When I was an undergrad at Howard, the brothers did not have a "better than you" attitude. I could approach them and ask about the organization. To this day I still love the fact we stay true to ourselves.

It's quite simple really. After considering some of the BGLO's on my campus, I was encouraged by my roomate to visit a Groove interest meeting. After that one meeting I was convinced that Groove Phi Groove, SFI was the organization for me. I found the Groove's to be very engaging and encouraged my Men Interested in Groove group (MIG) to evaluate the premiss for the foundation of the organization. I still have respect for the BGLO's as many of relatives have membership in some of those organizations. But the love I've shared with the brothers of Groove over these nearly 30 years is without peer.
