What is stringing and how is it done for big sis little sis revealing? Just interested because I have never heard about it!

Stringing is a way of doing big sis revelation. Basically each big sister goes and buys a different color of yarn and winds it all through the house, in and out of rooms, along stair bannisters, under table legs, upstairs and downstairs, etc...

The new girls come over the house... the end of their strings are usually at the front door. Each girl takes the one with her name on it and winds her way through the maze (it is a massive mess when you have 40 new members). Along the way, there are gifts tied to the string. Once they get untangled and find the other ends, their bigs are waiting with more gifts and to take them out.

Stringing is not allowed anymore in a lot of NPC groups. It is considered a form of hazing because it can take so long (all day) and because some chapters got carried away (winding it through fraternity houses, around fraternity boys).

That sucks that its considered hazing cause it sounds really cute and fun.

It can still be done in the house, as long as it is within reason.

Also, another reason why it is not allowed in some places is fire codes! It could be dangerous if people have to get out in a hurry... but, yes, it is SUPER fun! I miss those days!

If some one wound string around me and i hate to wait there all day with a clue, i would be none too thrilled.

What if you had to go to the bathroom.

I love stringing! It's a lot of fun and cute idea. The only problem is you have to be very careful of where you string- last year my pledge mom strung her pink yarn close to another girl's similarly hued yarn, and in the narrow back stairs me and the other girl got entangled with each other. I snipped the yarn out of its knot but we accidentally grabbed the wrong strings- I was still stringing for a good 45 min afterwards when my pledge mom called out to me unstringing in the front yard- apparently my sister had shown up in her room and my mom had to tell her that there had been some sort of mistake! Oh well, it was funny

We have done stringing for a couple revealings. It's alright I guess.... but since we don't have a house we have to use one of the girl's houses, and we don't have much room to do it because we're usually confined to one room. Mine was a clue hunt and I really liked that.

I think on our campus ZTA uses stringing; the girl who lived across the hall from me in the dorm last year came home with her big wad of yarn that had candy tied into it here and there, and of course all her gifts. She seemed to like it pretty well but I guess some of hers even went through keyholes and stuff... tricky but fun

We (Chi O) have a clue hunt with gifts around the house... which I think is a BLAST!!

Not sure what KD does for big sis revealing... maybe I'll ask 'em some time
