I quit.

Okay, a few of you know that I and a group of friends were trying to start up a new local sorority on campus in the hopes to go charter a national. Well, it all went down in flames.

Yesterday I went to the mall with Krys and another girl "Betty" (who I hightly despise but hope she had changed) and it was sh*tty. Well, Betty has totally taken over Kry's mind in what she thought of the Erica (the other girl who was helping form this). The whole freaking time Betty was dissing here calling her every name in the book and etc and Kry's is sitting there just going along with it. *growl* I speak up a few times in defense but I was afraid if I said anything more I'd just grow even more upset and well..do bad things.. *smiles politely* See, Betty is completly engrossed w/her bf's frat and is making Kry's engrossed with it also. Normally I wouldn't care, BUT, I was hoping and -thought- that she put the sorority buisness on a higher rank. *sighs* she's pledging this frat to be a lil sis (which I have no prob with) but now she's completely missing out on trying to get this stuff together and etc. In other words, she's being not so sisterly. Erica is such a sweetheart and wants to be Greek so much..but with all this backstabbing going around it's not worth it. She already has a bad rep on campus of sorts but still, everyone deserves a 2nd chance right?? *sighs once more* Plus, we're coming up to crunch time and now I hate to say, we're not even where we should be in the process.
Any advice would be greatly appriciated. because I'm to stressed to even think.

I forbid you to quit! At least give it one more shot. Maybe this is just one of those times when everyone is busy and stressed out, so they take it out on each other. I know you have your work cut out for you especially with the situation on your campus, but just think how great it would be if you actually made this work? If you try again and it *still* doesn't get off the ground, then you can say you gave it a good honest effort and leave it at that.

It sounds like your dear old pal Betty needs to wake up. Honestly--wouldn't it be better to be Greek yourself and be a part of a sisterhood rather than tagging along with your boyfriend's fraternity all the time? Just remember, though, that this sort of petty stuff happens in almost every sorority (well, at least every chapter I've come into contact with), and it's almost a given. It can be sorted out in the majority of cases. But I don't think I'd be giving Betty a bid anytime soon if I were you all...

Good luck to you! If you need anything, just holler.

i really hope you don't just quit!!! you've put too much effort to just give it all up.

this might sound a lot worse than i intend it to be, but maybe you should find ladies who will put forth the effort to bring this new sorority to life!

i think i have told you before when i was going to another university, a group of friends, including myself, got together to form a local sorority to go national.

in this group, girls came, and the ones that didn't want to put forth the effort left. well the girls who stuck with it have almost completed their journey!! they formed a local interest group that had NINE members... went through formal recruitment and COB and now they are a healthy 27. (just FYI.. 27 is GOOD for groups on this school... it's really small school to begin with and not many are Greek). They have colonized with an international sorority and are working towards getting their official charter.

it *can* be done.. but the *all* the people involved need to *want* it. feel free to pm me if you want to talk! i really hope it works out for you!!!

Okay, okay, okay, due to Tom's fine words and everyone else's I won't quit -yet-. I guess I'm just kinda ticked that they expect me to get everything finished. I was thinking about this last night and I'm really close to posting flyers and whatnot around campus about a mini-open rush type function. (Even though I'm actually kind of weary of the other soro's getting upset.) Right now Krys is pledging lil sis to a fraternity and it's taking up 95% of her time and therefore kinda closing this out. Erica is still wanting too, and I would love to have her as my sister, but, it's like I don't know what else to do ya know? There's so much to do and so little time. But, on the positive side, if we do get this up and some-what running we have support from all but one of the glo's for a vote in. It's just getting girls that is the prob. *sighs* I'm gonna be up there today and see what I can do..*oyes*

this is nuts and I don't know why I listen to my GC family, Kayla

Kayla, as You said, Your GC Family!

We are all hear to help if we can and give moral or imoral support!

It is very tuff to get something new started!

Look for new members from class mates, people you socialize with.

You need to Promote that there is an alternative to existing groups, and something that new members can be proud of starting and being a part of a newness to be proud of in the future!

It gets depressing, but hell, go for it!

Definitely sell the fact that you are starting something, NOT just joining something (not knocking the later at all!)

Go after leaders and let them know that what they will do will impact people for many years to come, not just be another drop in the bucket.

Helping found a chapter was probably one of my life's greatest accomplishments.

Don't be discouraged, just realize that it's not easy.
