Ya-Hoo!!!!
I am so so happy to hear that! We HAVE to keep each other updated. I started looking into Beta back in April, but I didn't decide to start a chapter until June. From June until the start of school, I hardly thought about anything but Beta Sigma Phi! I had a lot of time to come up with ideas. I even made up some chants and songs, so if you wanna share just let me know.
Your Future Sister (I hope! I hope!),
Erica

Thanks! They just emailed me that it would probably be 4-6 weeks before I heard anything from chapters in this area. I'll be waiting for a while...

Ooooh ooooh, songs and chants!!!! I'd love to 'hear' them!!! Please share!!!
My BSP update: Saturday we are doing Adopt-a-Highway, and then (after we all go back to our houses and take showers) we are having a pot-luck lunch at a sister's house before we work on crafts for our Christmas tree that will be part of an auction to benefit Hospice. The theme of our tree is 'music', and the craft I will be working on is taking wired ribbon and writing Christmas carols on it with puffy paint... I am so excited! I can't wait to work on this project, I love crafts, and I love helping others, and I love Beta Sigma Phi and my sisters! Oh, and next Wed. is our next meeting, and I will get my pledge pin and my pledge book (even though I went through the pledge ceremony last month; the membership VP was out of town).
Geez... I just wanted to stop on here and say that I'd like to here the songs and chants that you'd wrote, and I ended up rambling... ... I guess I'd better stop and get myself into bed.

Here are a few...
(SONG)
We are B.
We are B-E.
We are B-E-T-A S-I-G-M-A.
We are Beta Sigma Phi
with our torches to the sky.
We are B-E-T-A S-I-G-M-A P-H-I.
(Tune: Well...I know it as "I am a C. I am a C-H. I am a C-H-R-I-S-T-I-A-N" Not sure where else it comes from)
______________________
(a Rush SONG)
If you're Beta and you know it, clap your hands *c* *c*.
If you're Beta and you know it, clap you hands *c* *c*.
We are Beta Sigma Phi.
We are sisters 'til we die.
If you're Beta and you know it, clap you hands *c* *c*.
(Tune: Obviously..."If you're happy and you know it...")
______________________
(CHANT)
Beta *clap* *clap*
Beta SIGMA Phi
Beta *clap* *clap*
Beta SIGMA Phi
Beta *c* *c*
Sigma *c* *c*
Sigma Phi *c* *c*
Beta SIGMA Phi!
(The SIGMAs are in caps to give you a sense of the rhythm. Stress the capitals.)
I have a few more, but I have no idea how to explain the tunes. They are mostly old Sunday School songs
Erica
P.S. Your chapter sounds like it is really moving! I can't wait to be part of a "real" chapter

STILL waiting......
Well, I'm too old for a collegiate chapter. (I'm 25.) *sniff sniff* I'm still waiting to hear from a chapter in my area... it's been a while now!
I got an email back in early October that said 4 to 6 weeks, and it's been a little over 4. Can we say I'm impatient? lol
So, the question is - Should I continue to wait (not so) patiently or email International again and say "PLEASE don't keep me in suspense anymore!!!!!" (BTW, I just finished 2 tests, and I haven't had a whole lot of sleep, so I'm pretty goofy right now... take all of this post in a light playful, slightly psychotic and exhausted tone.)

It really bugs me that even though you're in college you can't be in a collegiate chapter because of your age. Personally I think that you should be able to because if you're in college you need to be with other college students for support. I mean you all have the same worries, and you'll be attending more social events with them anyway.
Has anyone contacted national's about this? If not I think I will.

It's not that she can't be in a collegiate chapter. She's too old for a Nu Phi Mu degree. However, you can have a collegiate chapter that is a Ritual of Jewels. This is what we did and it makes it so much easier. The only rule that International has is on the Nu Phi Mu degree. Don't be discouraged. I'm the oldest member of my group and I'm 24! We are looking to bring in some girls that are almost 30 who are also in college. It doesn't matter your age as long as you consider them to be sisters.
Keep your chins up!
Bernadette

*sigh*
Well, the lady from the local chapter called and invited me to go to a meeting tonight, but I had to work. I tried to trade with someone, but no one could, so now I have to wait until January. More waiting. I'm really trying to be patient... Keep your fingers crossed for me. I'm so excited for you all, and I can't wait to be excited for myself!
