Sucky Sequels
I was just telling my students that most sequels suck or don't live up to the original.
Which sequels, IYO, were losers?
Not Loser totally but LION KING 2 was not as GOOD as LION KING!!
I looooooooooooove The Lion King.

Are there sequels that don't suck? I'm kidding, but I generally refuse to see sequels because I think that people should be making *new* movies instead of re-hashing old stuff. For the same reason, I find it annoying when anyone remakes an old movie or tv series -- that whole retro thing doesn't appeal to me.
I think that Godfather II was good, but I don't remember it too much. Other than that, I can't think of a sequel that didn't bite. And sometimes you have to wonder -- didn't they make a Look Who's Talking Too? Like the first one wasn't bad enough???

They made a Look Who's Talking too -- younger sister who was voiced by Roseanne and a Look Who's Talking in Doggy Language -- 2 dogs for Julie and Mikey.

I was JUST talking about this last night, well kinda. My mother was watching Lethal Weapon 1, and I was like, This one sucks FOR REAL!! But the sequels were ALLLLLLLL way better than the first one. SO I guess that's a case where the reverse is true.

Grease 2 with Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfield singing "I Want a Coo-oo-ool Rider" just couldn't hold a candle to Grease I!

I believe The Evening Star was the sequel to Terms of Endearment. Whatever the title was, the sequel was a...um...just not what i was looking for at this point in my life. It's not you Sequel, it's me. I just don't wanna string you along, when I feel like we've grown apart. Maybe we can start again, later, because we'll always be friends, Sequel. I still love you, I'm just not IN love with you, anymore. Incidently, I can't talk about this tonight. I'll be out. I met a new movie today. I'm gonna go see New Movie tonight.

Although I LOVE Scream, I don't think the sequels were as great. And by the third one things were so far fetched and really outstretched that it was like, okay end the movie already. Love the movies, but still admit the first was the best...only because of of its shock value at the time.
Back to the future...the first one was better than the rest. I hated the last one especially where they were back in Cowboy times. BLAH!

Man HOOTIE you are so right about that dang on Back to the Future III which should have been called How to Travel to 3 different centuries on one tank of gas.
FHwku. . .thanks for my morning chuckle.
Sucky Sequels
1. Back to the Future #2 and 3
2. Gremlins 2
3. Lion King 2
4. Look Who's Talking #3
5. Mighty Ducks #3 -- That last one was garbage but I still would watch it if the situation presented itself.

-"Caddyshack 2" - are you f-ing kidding me? Ruining possibly the greatest movie ever by introducing the mini-golf aspect . . . *PUKE*
-"Karate Kid Pts II, III" and "The Next Karate Kid" - holy christ. These should have been put in the body bag (YEEEAAH!). Sweep the leg.

Crimson Tide, I must disagree. I think Gremlins is good. Its a comedy, not a horror flick, so it shouldn't be judged the same way. Its basicly making fun of the first one. Like when the smart gremlin shoots the dumb one on the talk show and says "see was the civilised, no clearly not." that line is hilarious.

see, now you've committed blasphemy LOL. Karate Kid II was the best one to me, I loved it. Now III they could have kept and the next was garbage. And on the back to the futures, the third was garbage, but 2 was cool, it was the only one where you saw the future, and you got to see more time travel dilemas

just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in to this sucky movie!
Godfather III. uggggh, there just aren't words.
To turn the question around, I think that the sequel to Funny Girl (Funny Lady) was much better than Funny Girl. This could be because I find James Caan to be exponentially more attractive than Omar Sharif.
