Badges

Just wondering how many of you all have badges? Our chapter seems to use lavaliers at activation instead of badges, is this normal?

Any input would be appreciated

Chapter traditions vary. It's just great to hear about all the different ones

We use pins at Alpha. We all pretty much have lavaliers but they are not from activation.

Thanks for the input. I told our girls that most sororities use there badge at activation and your big gets you your lavalier and they just couldn't understand that because they only know how we do things. Hopefully they will be open to some change and maybe someday Gamma will all have badges.

No problem Allie. I personally like the pins. You can even get ones that are cheaper...such as gold bar pins that are engraved with Sigma Alpha. They look nice and are more noticeable than a lavaleir.

Gamma Factoid: When we were chartered, the official badges didn't exist... which probably explains the lavalier tradition. To the best of my knowledge, most of the chapters activated in the last several years use badges. Any activated sister can purchase a badge on her own, even if her chapter doesn't use them. (hint, hint, Allie! :-)

There are also different styles of the official badge. One thing I like is where the badge is worn. (Not going to post that detail!)

We encourage sisters to wear badges or a Sigma Alpha pin when they are at things like the FFA Convention (but not in official dress) and NAMA, etc. You'd be surprised how it helps you meet sisters from other places!

Beth,

Ever since I saw the badges I knew I had to have one for professional function. Mine is being ordered as we speak It's one of those random gifts mom likes to spoil me with LOL

The gamma girls are considering badges, my job was to use GC as a resource and do a poll. SO all the information I collect with be presented to our e- board and hopefully you will see some Gamma girls proudly wearing their Sigma Alpha badges!

Well, I graduated from Lambda, and we being fairly new always got activated with our badges the crest. then if we chose later (like became and officer) we would get our little lavalier and our officer dangle.
It was really and exciting honor to get this awsome real Sigma Alpha jewlery and feel truly after all your work as an MC that you were now a SIgma Alpha.
As Mc's and when I worked with the MC's we would make little ribbon or hand made pins for them to wear which was kind personal and way cheaper for the chapter. I still have my shaggy pin, brings back memories.
something else cool about having the badges is that some big sis little sis lines have chosen to pass their pins down the family line so it is even more of a special treat at activation. I have my big sis's. but some are still being passed down.
I hope all your chapter gets excited and really has a great time with the badge thing.
Good luck with whatever you choose.
