Question What goes into rush?

I'm planning rush for my chapter -- we're the founding group, so we didn't have to go through rush.

What kind of things are we supposed to do? I mean, I know we need to meet everyone and have interactive activities -- but what are you guys talking about w/ skits and stuff? What kind of things are normal? We don't have a greek system at my school, so this is really unstructured for me. Any help you could give would be great!

Thanks a bunch!

Wink

hey ....my sorority is the smallest sorority on campus, thereforre we dont have rush with the others, and believe me, its tough for us too to think of things to do, but I am rush chairman , so I will give you some ideas that we are thinking about. Ok..
So youu have info night, and thats when you meet allof the girls ofcourse, im sure you know that allready. And then, about 2 days after, we have FUn night, either you pick a place, such as a bowling place, skating rink, something that you would have fun doing with your friends that doesnt involve alcoho, or a lot of money. LIke, what I'm doing is planning for everyone to go to this one girls' apartment, and watch movies, play games, make their party cups for rush, etc....diff activities ya know? Oh yeah, the skits is a way to show your new rushees why they should join. Like, we did "Who wants to be a Sigma Alpha?" ( as in who wants to be a millionaire?") It is like a trivia of facts from your sorority. But the old members play ofcourse b/c the rushees dont know anything about you right? Then, yu can also just do a play of how great your sorority is by having members say great things about the sorority in dialouge form. I hope this can help some., if you have any more questions, please feel free to email me: mgomez1@lsu.edu

Since your a professional fraternity, I'll tell you what the ones on my campus did.

First night is a general info night. Have a presentation on what Phi Beta is all about. History, ieals, etc.

Second night is pretty much a get to know ya type of night. Chit chat w/ refreshments.

Any other nights should be an actvity that represents your group. ex the business fraternity would have a resume night

Your fraternity might do something like have the members show off their talents or ya'll may decide to attend a local concert or play. After a few nights like that you'll have another chit chat night and maybe some sort of invite only event.

After that you'd give out bids and have some type of celebration.

Professional fraternities at my school have rush drag on over a couple weeks. I'm not really sure if it's to elimnate looky loos or to make sure everyone has a chance to meet them. Either way, make sure the length of rush is satisfactory to most of your members. If they think 3 nights is too short do more. If they think 2 weeks is too long, do less.

Good Luck

Oh and never hesitate to ask for advice from your alumni and nationals!
