Post Could you win the national spelling bee?

I couldn't and I really thought I could spell.

Pretty good
You could be a champion in the making, but you'd better spend a little more time in the dictionary.
You got 6/10 correct.

Let me know how you do.

I got the same score as you! I missed #2, 4, 5, and 8. I'm already fully aware that I could never win a spelling bee. I have to have a dictionary sitting right next to the computer. I'm a horrible speller.

I was a spelling qualifier once...

Actually, when i was 8 I was invited to be a speller in the national spelling bee, ( I placed second in the nurenberg spelling bee which qualified me) but i couldn't go because my family was stationed in Germany. and plane tickets were hard to get back in those days, being that we lived overseas and all.

But to answer your question, I think i could've won back in the day. but the words seemed to be easier back in those days.

I forgot to post my score 9/10

Well I do consider myself a decent speller. I probably could do a thing or two at a national spelling bee. For me its all about the alternate pronunciations, the root words, and the language of origin. If I know those, most times I can spell the word without any difficulty.

You got 8/10 correct. I did well. I don't understand how I could have misspelled croissant. I took french from elementary school through my second year in college. My french teachers would be upset.

Anyway, I was in a couple of spelling bee's in elementary school but never on the national level. I was always a good speller.

I got eight of the words correct. Actually, I guessed on a few of them because I didn't know some of the medical terminology. Some of those words are words that are common but I never really thought about how they are spelled so I just had to go with the choice that "looked right."

9/10, sacriligious threw me off. That was much easier than actually having to spell the word though.

Dang, see I didn't want to tell that I missed sacriligious. I guess it tripped up a few people. Now I feel a bit better about missing it.

I got the same thing. I already knew I could not spell. Spellchecker is my best friend. And I am not ashamed to admit it, there were some words I had never heard before!

And as for spending more time in the dictionary, they know what they can do with that!!

I used to hate when my mother would tell me to go look a word up in the dicitionary to spell it. If I knew how to spell it I wouldn't be asking!! It is hard to look up a word when you do not know what the second or third letter is!

Sorry, I had to vent.
