Is Your S/O Greek?
Among the GreekChatters, which of you have a significant other who is greek and which of you don't? I wondered if greeks tend to end up with other greeks or not? I guess that could also be influenced by when you met your significant other (i.e. if you met in college the s/o may be more likely to be greek since greeks tend to hang around together). Anyone?
I'm a Delta Zeta and my husband is a non-greek. We were both already out of school when we met. He didn't have fraternities at his college but has said he probably wouldn't have joined one even if they had.

My boyfriend is not Greek. There were Greeks on his campus, but he chose not to join one -- he didn't think he fit the "fraternity profile".... what he really means is that he didn't fit the fraternity stereotype.
However, he is very supportive of me being involved in DZ, and doesn't have a problem with Greeks.

My boyfriend is a Theta Chi. We met freshman year of college before either of us was even thinking about going greek (we had sophomore rush at our school). Neither of us was very sure if we wanted to join, but then we decided to give it a try. I think it was good that we both decided to join our respective org's instead of just one of us because we could understand what the other was going through. It was fun to pledge together because a few of my sisters were dating a few of his brothers so we all were always playing pranks on each other's houses. I think it is true that if greek people meet their s/o's in college, they are more likely to both be affiliated because greeks tend to stick together. I can't think of very many pairings of affiliated/nonaffiliated people from college, but it is much more common after graduation.

My wife (32 years) is not Greek. Her mother is an Alpha Delta Pi, but must have had a very bad experience in the sorority, because she told my wife that if she pledged, she would never see another penny from them.
My wife did go through rush, just to see what it was about and received bids from Pi Phis, Chi-O's and, of course, ADPi's. I don't know exactly how sorority rush works or worked, but I guess you could get bids from several groups and choose the one you liked best.
I was a pledge when we met.
It is interesting to note that my mother-in-law recently attended a reunion at her college and went back to visit the ADPi House and even had her picture taken in front of it.
Our oldest daughter considered rushing, but decided not to. She is in a Greek Lettered academic honorary. Our youngest son is about to go to college, and exhibits absolutely no interest in the Greek System.

My girlfriend of 2 years is not greek and never will be. She's supportive of my fraternity though. I drag her along to all of our parties and get togethers
Occasionally I give her a hard time about it but it's not that bad.. just means more of her time for me

My boyfriend is not greek. Would never have been greek, to some extent makes fun of me since I did it. When I was in college it was a bigger deal but now he's fine.

My husband isn't Greek--he went to a local college that has never had them and he knew zero about them. However, he has been very pleased with what he's learned about the Greek system and really enjoys knowing my sorority sisters who live in the Atlanta area. He's also happy that our oldest daughter is Greek and hopes that the rest pledge too. Most of his cousins are Greek.
Who knows? Maybe if our sons pledge, he'll be an alum initiate someday!

My boyfriend is a Theta Chi...and most of my sisters date Theta Chi's...it's really weird on my campus b/c most sororities and fraternities stick together when it comes to dating.

My husband and I didn't meet until after we were both well out of college, and he is greek... he's not an involved alumnus, however. But it's nice that we both have the background, and want to share that with our children some day. We have a box full of sorority and fraternity "stuff" that we thought would be fun if our future children ever went Greek.

My boyfriend is a Theta Xi. He's actually one of the people who encouraged me to rush my sophmore year and see what happened. I'm very glad he did.
