Ownership of Fraternal Boards on GC
I was wondering if Greeks felt a sense of ownership on "their" boards on GC. How do you see the Board for your organization on GC? Do you feel it disrespectful for someone else to type their call or even post on some threads on "your" board? Or is it really that serious?

funny you should ask!
I have no problem with non-Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. members visiting, posting and shouting out their orgs on "our" boards. As a matter of fact, I encourage it! Its all love. I go to parties thrown by other Greeks and I will do a stroll (after the host Greek has done their stroll)... and my call when appropriate, so why would or should I have a problem with a fellow Greek doing their call "our" boards. To me, thats just plain silly. If its going to be like that, we may as well say, any one who is not a member of the organization's forum wher you are posting should remove any "sorority/fraternity" identifying IDs from your name and "signature" when posting. Let's be more secure than that! REALLY.
I do find it disrespectful when posters come to "our" board to intentionally stir up drama. Luckily, we have minimal drama here on Greek Chat. ^5 to our fabulous mods ZetaAce and Shelacious!
In my 2 years here on GC, we have really created a warm environment. I am so proud of the professionalism and sincerity my lovely Sorority sisters show to one another and our guests.
At the end of the day, these boards do not belong to us. I am glad my Sorority has a place where we can discuss privately any topic we please. ^5 to the PrettyKitty and SexZeta who created our vehicle.

Sorors and Sisterfriends,
The last time I have checked John was running shop. Please correct me if I am wrong. This yours, mines and ours sounds like a turf war to me.
We all have two things in common. First we are women and second we belong to organizations that are geared to the betterment of our communities. It is really not that serious. Can we all get along and build from each other?

I really have one thing to say: It's really NOT THAT SERIOUS. Goodness Gracious!
I don't know about ya'll, but I have better things to do with my time than get mad that someone in another org. did their call on my Sorority's message board on GC. Ya'll know just as well as I do...some folks take GC a bit too seriously...but that's another thread.
Sisterly,

Ownership....
This is an interesting question. All of you are right in the sense that there is no "ownership" here--all the forums, in fact the very site itself is provided, FREE OF CHARGE, by John Hammell. As such, it would be very presumptuous for me to put the "hate" on anyone who called, strolled, yelled or commented in the forum, either positively or negatively. You are also right in that if I desire to post something of relevance for or to ZETAS only, I have another avenue for that--FW. Therefore, my baseline assumption, both as a poster and as a moderator, is that ANYONE who wants to post or respond to a post in the ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY forum on Greek Chat should feel invited and encouraged to do so. As moderators (thanks L ), Zeta_Ace and I try to limit the modification of posts to deleting sensitive information and minimizing the impact of extremely damaging posts, if necessary.
I do think people take it WAYYY TOOO seriously, primarily because people are hypocritical. They usually have a difficult time applying and internalizing what they say to or about other folks to themselves or to their own organizations or interests. As such, I DO find myself trying to limit my posts in other organization-specific forums, not because of a personal sense of respect for "ownership", but an understanding that all do not feel as I do.
I cannot control what other folks do though--I can only say that there is no Zeta Phi Beta ownership on anything attached to Greek Chat. Therefore people should not feel obligated, or disinclined as the case may be, to post or not post in any Zeta Phi Beta related Greek Chat board.
Dove Love,
Shel

It really seems quite silly to me how some people have taken these boards to an extreme and treat them like a "plot"...now I will definitely agree that you should always be respectful of greeks on "their" boards...but that same respect should extend to every board not just "theirs." Shel brought up an excellent point about the real ownership belonging to a John Hammell...Perhaps giving each organization a specific board for their org relates a false sense of ownership...but whatever the case, I don't feel that any "greek" has ownice anywhere on gc.

There is no such thing as OUR or THEIR when it comes to these boards because unless we put down $$$ for each board, I do believe it's JH's. I mean, unless folks think it's that serious to start paying dollars to get rights to a board... But personally, I'm assuming we have a million other things that we can do/would like to do with our $$$.
